First visit, recommended by friends in Sydney who had tried twice to go there, but missed out. How lucky were we, they now take bookings!! Luke Burgess's menu was interesting, different to the normal menu, but flavoursome and unique. We savoured every morsel and of course deconstructed every dish, (as you do!). We selected the degustation menu with matching wines,... More

Second visit, this time with a group of 8. Menu was a 5 course degustation for $90 although there was a choice between 2 dishes for 3 of the 5 courses. There was no amuse-bouche to start nor any palate cleanser before dessert. There was an option to have matching sake with each course for $130. We went for a... More

You foodies out there give yourself a treat and go to Garagistes while its still under the direction of Luke Burgess and his team. The food we had there last night is some of the most interesting and tasty I have ever had. Great service, great atmosphere, really interesting combination of flavours and an exceptional wine list. Probably currently the... More

It all depends upon your point of view. To us it was Nouvelle cuisine served with a very large dose of pretension. To be fair we probably were not in the mood for this type of experience and the review may reflect this. We arrived and were shown promptly and efficiently to our bench table shared by other diners. We... More

This is a nice restaurant in a revamped garage. The food presented was nice and taste great but the portion maybe too small for most diners. But for $90 the value was fairly decent. The sitting arrangement may not suit all diners as high wooden chairs (uncomfortable if you plan to sit for long) and shared table lacked privacy if... More

Garagistes was recommended to me as doing interesting things. And it does. An incredible mix of fresh ingredients perfectly marched with different Sake - and I mean perfectly. For many this may require a leap of faith in the chefs and staff that they know what they are doing. My group debated if we would do the sake, and we... More

We have eaten at Garagistes a number of times. It has never disappointed and in fact our most recent meal was probably the best. It is worth a bar seat to watch the kitchen staff preparing the food with outstanding attention to detail and dedication to the job under the guidance of a master, Luke Burgess. The menu had few... I like everything about this restaurant. It has done so much for Hobar, which has never seen its ilk. It has changed in recent months. Now you can book; before you queued, checked in, waited foir the call to come and eat. Now there are set menus. The long tables inevitably lead to conversation and comparing notes on dining. Since... The food is so imaginative and the flavours just explodes in your mouth. I love sitting at the long shared tables seeing what other people are eating and listening to their views about MONA.

A great restaurant with exciting taste sensations, so carefully prepared. Excellent waitress who was very knowledgable about the menu. I know some people dislike the large share tables, I like them. Both times I've met interesting people. However......I perfered the menu we had last year. A full al a carte choice. Now they have a degustation menu with only a... More
