Extremely contemporary food with an outstanding wine/sake list. Flavor profiles were off the charts, but with 30 minutes between courses its something to endure.

I was so looking forward to a great degustation ,especially after having Garagistes recommended by local foodies. It may have been the night, the menu not "on song", the shared tables, the dark, unfriendly atmosphere, the hand basins outside the toilets, very close to our table.. But we didn't think it rated at all! If it wasn't for our lovely... More

I normally don't like set menus and communal tables but nevertheless the experience here was great. The menu was clever in terms of build up, interest and flavours, and the sake choices were fantastic. We felt fun & felt safe making our way through this set menu. Out of the 6-8 dishes we had only one was not truly amazing... More

Had a 6 course degustation with wine and sake pairing and I must say the staff were really knowledgeable and very helpful. They accommodated all special request and food was great and sake pairing was perfect. My only negative was it took way too long for each course and the carrot ice cream dessert was not good, there were 6... More

Had dinner on a recent Saturday night. As others have mentioned, the communal tables don't work for everyone. The tables are so wide, you're closer to the people on your left and right than you are to your dining partner opposite you. No secret conversations over dinner at Garagistes! The food and service were impeccable. Bring an open mind and... More

A great overall dining experience. Those passionate about food and dining will love the experience. A well constructed and interesting five course fixed menu ($90), with just enough choice to accommodate most tastes. The food was excellently executed and presented. Somewhat ironically, the least impressive dish was the beef, which incurred a $10 surcharge (although served with a spoon, had... More

When I read the menu online a little while ago, nothing really grabbed me. Then, I was taken here for a surprise dinner on Friday night. I was a little apprehensive about some of the items on the menu, as seafood and cheese don't appeal to me too much. But was I wrong! The flavours in the food worked so... More

Our dining experience at Garagistes was great. We tried everything on the menu and wine options were well matched. The food was really clever and we enjoyed every dish. The food is the hero here. The shared tables keep other diners close so this is probably not the best choice for a romantic night out or first date, nor would... More

The food and beverages wowed us. Beautiful flavour combinations and fantastic presentation. The communal tables- sometimes they work well, sometimes they don't and in this instance probably the latter. The service was exemplary and many of our other restaurants would benefit from a lesson or two from this staff. Food and wine knowledge was faultless. A memorable experience for those... More

Everyone I spoke to who had visited Hobart said you must try Garagistes, but you will never get in. Fortunately they now do online bookings two weeks ahead of your desired date. All very civilized but they do the two seating thing which drives some nuts. And another observation to make is that it is a communal bar seating arrangement.... More
