I did the 5 course dinner with matching saké - each course was outstanding, with the spanner crab and beef tartare being the standout. Three courses had options to choose from, with the staff on hand to give their thoughts on which to order. There is also an extensive international wine list - several hundred! - with staff again on... More

Had to wait for more than half an hour between courses for food that was the same for everyone in the restaurant. Many of the courses were bland. The flathead was delicious. However many were also just plain weird combinations, appeared to try hard to be different. For what is meant to be Hobart's best restaurant was very let down.... More

We visited Garagiste during our honeymoon in Tasmania and loved what this establishment offered. It's confident, friendly, helpful and knowledgable staff were exceeded by absolutely first class execution in the kitchen. The 5 course deg menu is original, packed with amazing flavour combinations and quite simply the best dining experience we found in Hobart! This is a must visit for... More

Decided to have dinner here as a last night in Hobart for me and my wife. I rang earlier to see if the menu could be catered for someone who was pregnant in their first trimester. The staff who answered was very informative and told us it would be no problem. This was echoed by the wait staff who was... More

We were only in Hobart for a few days and hadn't planned very well ahead so when we went online to book Garagistes for two days later they had no vacancies. However, never say die - we went on the waiting list. The next day we were phoned and a charming, French accented voice told us we had been successful.... More

On preparation for the tassie trip,we came accross an Arte magazine about Hobart. They suggested that the new restaurant 'garagistes' was a place to visit. So we wanted to try this new culinary experience. The warm welcome of the owner ,seen on tv, was promising, but they are always fully booked. We manage to get a table,I mean on the bar... More

Overall my experience of Garagistes was very good. Set in a simple converted warehouse on canteen style benches, the food provides the intrigue and interest. Extensive wine menu but very difficult to navigate as the normal categorisation of the wines is completely amiss and the menu describes the wines with unusual and difficult to understand titles. Wines are on the... More

Wow!! We learned about cunzia, how good eel can taste and much more. A restaurant for " foodies" to appreciate the innovative, difficult, time consuming dishes that appear deceptively simple. Excellent wine list, although a bit xxxy. Attentive, knowledgeable , friendly service

The food amounts were small, not enough to get the taste of things. Nothing that made me go WOW, that's amazing. The wine list was not easy to follow - we choice an unusual wine that was not filtered and pretty tasteless. I think it should have been pointed out as 'out of the box'. Staff were stand offish. I... Had dinner here last night with my wife and teenage children. We loved the place! The service was efficient and friendly. We ordered matching wine with the degustation menu and were very impressed with the selection. All meals were beautifully presented and the pace wasn't rushed. The 2 sittings was initially a concern, but we started at 6.30pm and finished... More
