We called in for dinner without a reservation and it was a little easier (ie there were more empty tables) than we expected. I know that several reviewers have noted that they experienced poor service - even rudeness - but we were welcomed and treated well on our visit. The waitress was young, very courteous but not highly knowledgeable; she... More

When you go out on Friday night you expect things to be busy. So our visit to Mandarin House on a Friday night came with that expectation. However we didn't bargain on a nearly half hour wait for our orders to be taken. We were about to walk out when the waitress arrived and she did apologise for the delay,... More

Went here with a large group of people before going to a show. Menu extensive and plenty to choose from. The 5 kids with us had no problems finding food the liked. Service was fine, not overly attentive but came to our table when requested. Portions are big -we could have ordered one less meal for the kids. We had... More

I enjoyed a meal at the Mandarin House three days ago and am still thinking about it. Located on Gouger Streets restaurant row and directly opposite the markets it is well placed for a great lunch or dinner option. A locally based collegue took me here as he had heard wonderfull things about a signature dish of whole rabbit done... More

I have lunch here regularly and thoroughly enjoy it. The menu is extensive, way beyond "ordinary" Chinese restaurants, with choices for both the adventurous and not so much. The dining area is fine although, nothing special. A friend convinced me to try the cabbage with chilli and vinegar, and I was surprised to discover it is superb, I now have... More

When I went there the first time, I was put off by this funny smell. Actually it was disgusting. The second time it was much better, smell was not noticeable (probably because we sat on the table close to the entrance), and the food was wonderful

What happened to this place?! Used to be awesome 5 years ago - used to crave anything with dumplings on their menu on a regular basis, and also cos it used to be so affordable ( $11-$12 for dumpling soup). Now it has grown too big for its boots - the owner upped the prices to a ridiculous level ($24... More
