Classy Japanese

A late booking allowed us a table on a Friday night. A buzzy restaurant with good glassware and staff. The tempura was fabulous as was the tempura prawn sushi. The Wagyu wasn't as tender as we were used to but all the other meals were excellent.

I enjoyed our dinner at Kenji. We ordered the Zensai entree and a bento each. They were both sufficient to make us full. The quality of the food was good. The service was excellent and the waitresses were attentive and helpful. Thought the food was slightly pricey for what we got though.

We had a great night with family and friends. The service was excellent being attentive but unobtrusive. The food was memorable and there was a lot of passing spoons and forks around so everyone could share the tastes. Each of us had a different favourite. It is not a cheap night out but I'd prefer to have one great meal... More

We have been coming to Kenji for about a decade. I can think of no other restaurant that has so consistently delivered great service and innovative cuisine on every single visit. We have never failed to be amazed by the exquisite preparation, freshness, inventiveness and presentation of every dish. There is always a 'wow' factor at Kenji. Saturday night was... More

Good mains except the salmon on the sashimi smelt off (complained but no response apart from that the waiter would pass the message on); excellent creative deserts; quick service BUT the initial conversation of 'you MUST order 2 courses each (which we were supposed to have been told at booking but this had not happened) seemed unnecessary. This statement was... More

This restaurant is consistently great - I can't pick a favourite meal - every dish is as good as the next! I went to sit outside one evening waiting for a cab & one of the staff came running out with a cushion for me - now that was seriously unexpected & a nice touch!

I love the sushi at this place and the atmosphere is really cool! They have a great selection of sushi on the menu including a full bar with really awesome drinks, wine and beer. My only complaint is the wine pours were a little on the small side, but not too bad. Looking forward to returning soon!

For our meal at Kenji we both decided to indulge in the five course Degustation menu. So pleased we did! The Zensai (appetiser) consisted of six amazing little mouthfuls delivered to the table with explanation of each by Kenji himself. All were fresh and incredibly well balanced by each other. Delicious! Tuna tataki with Kingfish sashimi was next, served with... More

Greeted by a friendly waitress who was doing just fine, but as soon as I asked for a vegan menu, the head waitress (who was trying to appear friendly but with a condescending tone - you know the kind) swooped in, as if to "keep the situation under control". Followed by the shaky start was the overly salty vegan bento... More

Lovely Oysters, Puffer fish and beef Tataki (lovely), Sashimi was a chunky. Mains were all good as were the deserts. Service was good but inconsistent as the restaurant filled.Glass of wine forgotten and when arrived was the wrong red (lovely , but amazingly the slightly more expensive one). Does this restaurant represent good value? Probably not!
