Best restaurant in Townsville

GYO has consistently provided excellent food for years. We are regular diners and the food and value for money is excellent. Try the Seafood Teppanyaki it is to die for! The menu mixes mains with Tapas style and has something for everyone.

My husband booked us a table for Mother's Day, friends recommended it. We loved it, even our 10 and 12 year old tried new dishes and ate every mouthful appreciatively. The service is attentive and unobtrusive. The menu has just enough variety to be interesting without trying too hard.

GYO is EASILY the best Japanese cuisine you will find in Townsville. It also ranks (in my opinion) as one of the best restaurants in Townsville. The service is always impeccable, the food is fresh, well portioned and always extremely tasty. I have noticed some of the other reviews say the prices are a little steep, I do not agree... More

Another Birthday was celebrated at GYO and never disappointed. We ordered quite a lot of food and it was all super fast. Only problem was, our table wasn't big enough to sit it all on. It was all hot and very flavoursome. My 15 month old loved it as did the FIL who had never experienced Japanese before. All reasonably... More

We make sure to have at least one meal here every time we are I. Townsville. Yummy food and lovely staff. Just keep an eye on there opening times as we have forgotten that and turned up on a day they were closed (our own fault haha!)

In fact it looks like it should be and old Australian Chinese cafe but once they start bringing the food you realise this is something special at very ordinary prices. Have the soft shell crab, the sashimi box and anything else they offer

The food here is good, but not great as written by many here. For Townville it may be "great" but if this place was in any capital city it would be swamped by "great" competition. Staff friendly and attentive, food presented well, just lacked the next level of flavour etc. Price is just starting to creep up there a bit... More

I've been coming to GYO now regularly for a few years and I can conclude that it is consistently a high standard of delicious Japanese food for a very reasonable price. There were some new items on the menu for our most recent visit - the standout being the tempura chili stuffed with prawn mince (beautifully presented and delicious). Some... More

As students we infrequently visit gyo, it's delicious, well structured and created by obviously a master of his art. In the most positive way, it does not belong in townsville, just a street away from the foreshore, and expansive bar with amazing cocktails and as of yet I have not had a meal which did not live up to its... I frequently pop in for a quick lunch and I am never disappointed. Always service with a smile, great atmosphere and fantastic food. Then when we go to dinner we have a different menu to choose from. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Just remember to book your table. Not open on Monday or Tuesday .
