Tea in the mountains

This olde worlde Aussie tearoom was worth a visit, good choice of menu, nicely served and tasty nice walks too although a bit hot for us Poms and a six week old joey! Must be lively in your winter to wander down to the tunnel etc.

The Tearooms as known locally in Townsville is a pleasant 30 minute drive and a damn nice (ride) with a few nice corners on the range. This privately owned heritage cafe is in an old historic Inn which has been (relatively) well restored to its bush best. The cafe serves a wide variety of cooked snacks and meals to a... More

Good for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. A quiet spot under the trees, the climate on the range is pleasant and cooler ,mth an Townsville. Definitely worth a visit, a good place to take friends. There are quiet walks nearby and quad bike experiences if you wish. If you go when there is a function on, be prepared to wait... More

firstly it was busy when we visited, but less than half of the tables were full so i would assume that this establishment should be able to manage a much larger crowd. Anyway to sum things up we waited 40min for 2 scones and an iced coffee. the staff appeared incompetent, from the hopeless guy on the register (i has... More

Julia, looks like you visited several venues around town over the weekend with some satisfaction. Unfortunately Sunday was not the day to visit us - the Spirit and Soul Festival was a huge success for the organisers but obviously overwhelming for our heritage listed little kitchen. We will obviously looking to have additional outside food venues next year. Having said... More

I was looking forward to my first visit to the tea rooms but we waited 20 minutes to get served then about 1 hour and 40 minutes to get our food! When it finally arrived I said "We've waited over an hour and a half for this," to which the response from the woman who seemed to be in charge... More

Geoff, as discussed via email Sunday was an extraordinary day with the very successful Spirit and Soul festival stretching us way beyond our usual capacity. We were extremely disappointed with the way the day progressed and will certainly be looking at other options for next year's event. My comments were out of line and I sincerely apologise - it did... Since the new owners have taken over the food and atmosphere have improved. The gardens look great and they have tidied up the entertainment areas out the back, which are fantastic for weddings or high teas. We lovely going up here just to escape and have one of their award winning scones. The air is cleaner, the temperature is cooler... More

We had been talking about going to the tea house for some time and finally did for Saturday lunch. The drive was very pleasant and the surroundings just beautiful. The food and service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting there watching all the different birds and butterflies flying in and out of the trees. Was something different to the... More

I was looking forward visiting the tea house then to take the kids on the little bush walk. Was disappointed there were no cakes displayed at all... and limited food offerings for dietary requirements. Kids got a pie and milkshake... looked like it was bought from the servo... and my zucchini slice and salad was drenched in dressing.... Although I... More

Thank you for your review Stella. I apologize that our staff did not bring to your attention the sign on our cake display fridge which advised customers that the fridge is currently our of order, but that all our delicious sweets are still available. We are also always appreciative of practical advice on menu items from people who have special... More

Apparently, this is the oldest remaining building in north Queensland and it certainly has some interesting history about it, which you can read on the signs and historical books at the tea house. Nice outdoor dining area with big umbrellas for shade, making it quite pleasant even on a very hot Townsville mid-summer day. No views across the range from... More
