Vast quantity of food but unfortunately too expensive!

As almost always when trying something new and it is available, we did the sampler plate with wine pairing. Some of the food was very good, some was quite bland, or rather not to my taste, the wine was well paired! There were at least three different courses and the main course consisted of a... read more

Being British and agreeably eaten most things aurhentic restaurants, takeaways, can offer, I have never tried a Balinese dish, I thought " here we go, Thai again". We ordered a set menu for two. I was very surprised, each dish was outstandingly tasty, and each dish tasted different, there was plenty in each dish to share. Rice was plenty ful... More

This is a nicely set out restaurant, and a cut above the mainstream. Interesting menu with Balinese/Indonesian cuisine. We had the sweetcorn fritters with green papaya salad and satay to start with - both excellent. That was followed by gado gado and bbq pork spare ribs. Again, very good. Service was attentive and friendly. My only criticism of this restaurant... More

My wife, 12-year old daughter and I went there yesterday for dinner. I went there with some trepidation, having read some reviews that mentioned poor service. Bay leaf turned out to be arguably one of the best meal experiences I have had in Australia, matching or surpassing some of the high end, more expensive restaurants. We were promptly seated on... So Authentic that sometimes the language barrier causes humorous moments. We normally go with our Asian friends but ast visit we went with our Canadian friends and had the Balinese rijsttafel (banquet). I don't particularly like coriander, but there is very little used or the food is so good you don't notice. There is so much to eat!. The deserts... More

Authentic food served on banana leaves makes for a great atmosphere in this restaurant. Excellent service from everyone in the restaurant. Don't let the fact that it is a few block away from the centre of the Cairns esplanade deter you. The food is delicious!

This is a great restaurant and the locals love it too so it's best to book. A good wine list and lovely, authentic Balinese food. Sit inside for the air conditioning or outside if you prefer.

We were visiting Cairns and wanted to get away from the tourist area so a bit of research suggested Bayleaf. We really enjoyed our meal - the service was excellent, food was fresh and the menu offered a lot of variety. The chicken curry was probably the tenderest chicken we have ever had. We also liked the atmosphere created by... More

Food is always tasty. We arrived separately and I was the second person to arrive. I was asked if I was ready to order about half an hour after being there and I hadn't even been approached for a drink. Overall, food is ace, staff less.

Decided to try somewhere different for dinner and picked bayleaf. the atmosphere was beautiful a little loud at times but that's fine most places are. Weren't given a drink menu on arrival which was fine. However when I asked for one politely the extremely rude waitress pulled an arrogant face. Had to wait 20 minutes for a bottle of water... More
