I was part of a conference group that dined on Thursday 16 October 2014. As a venue, it was brilliant. Sadly not matched by the food. Then 3 main course options were delivered to each table and you shared. One was a fish, which had a very strong odour and was dry. Don't know what sort of fish it was.... More

The ambience of this restaurant is fantastic, sitting outside on a warm Darwin night, amongst the trees with hanging lanterns all around. Service was slow - we sat for quite a while with menus and nothing else - not even drinks. Entrees were spectacular. Mains - far less so. A steak that was supposed to be medium rare came out... More

The Tataki Beef entrée is to die for! In my top 5 dishes I've ever eaten. Rump Cap main was cooked to perfection. Very nice sides of Bok Choy in oyster sauce and kipfler potatoes we shared with out friends. Very expensive but worth it. The service was outstanding. We shared both as we're not big eaters and it was... More

Food and service at Char was second to none. Steak cooked absolutely to a T and deserts fabulous as well as a really good wine and beverage selection in the heart of Darwin. Whilst we would have liked to sit outside there wasn't space but the team accommodated us to the best of their ability and put us in a... More

Filthy glasses which weren't replaced even after asking the staff Had to send the main meals bk as they weren't cooked The staff slapped out meals down in front of us, spilling wine My plate was taken even though I wasn't finished, I still had half a streak to eat We sat there for nearly 30mins after our mains and... A beautiful location on the esplanade in Darwin - however be very careful people have been twice in a week now once for dinner and once for lunch and possibly the worst service I have encountered ... Myself and my partner waited 2 hours for a steak each and eventually after being told 5 times it was 10 minutes away... More

We have been to Char a few times and every time our steak was superb as were the entrées. We love the atmosphere and the staff was really nice and trying very hard.

I wish TA's rating scale had an option for 'Good'. Char overall was probably somewhere between Average and Very Good. Char: great setting, beautifully presented and great staff. Food also spectacular. Had a delicious eye fillet. My goodness it was good. In fact all the food was superb ... and this was matched initially with great, attentive service by two... More

The sunset was nice as we walked from hotel to Char. So the location is good and it's a popular spot. The oysters were plump, fresh as and tasty. The oven roasted Jew fish sadly was overdone. The T bone was reasonable as were the drinks. Overall not nearly as good as cousins in BNE town.

Have just returned from an amazing meal here, the food was absolutely out of this world! The only let down was how slow the food was in coming. Our waiter Roman was great and kept us informed and apologised, how ever we were incredibly hungry when it finally arrived, we were not offered any nibbles in the meanwhile or a... More
