Don't let the decor put you off, this place serves fantastic food! We shared numerous dishes, all which made us want more! Papaya salad with subtle hint of chilli was great, followed by the wonderful Campfire Beef with its delicious slices of tender meat sizzling in a bowl with fresh slices of tomato and onion. The campfire is great as... More

Second visit here with wife's friends (all Vietnamese). Each time everyone has enjoyed the experience overall, sampling a good percentage of the menu. I thought the Beef in pepper sauce and deep fried pork were the best dishes, along side the vegetables in sweet chilli sauce (I should know all the VN names by now ... ), other favourites where... My 3 travel companions were all very satisfied with their food. Chicken curry, vegetables & noodles, quails & a beef dish. I ordered the taro spring rolls (interesting combo) & fried calamari (overcooked & too much batter).

We were 20 minutes late for our 7:30 booking, yet on entering the restaurant we wondered why we had booked as the small restaurant was empty. Within 10 minutes of our arrival however there was not a spare seat to be found, as other diners and obvious regulars streamed through the doors. Hesitation turned to anticipation as we studied the... More

This restaurant does not win any prizes for decor, however the food is delicious. Recommend booking or arriving early for a table. They also do take away.

Across the road from a flashier and more upmarket (but noisier) Vietnamese cousin, the Thanh Long - at the Redfern end of Crown Street, Surry Hills - has an unassuming and slightly old-fashioned air. Despite being in a smallish space and with a large table next to us it wasn't noisy when we visited. Unusually for Sydney, no canned music,... More

Translates to Green Dragon in english. In an ever changing street of restaurants this has been here forever and after a meal you will quickly learn why. Easy to find, directly across the road from the well known Red Lantern. But this is an equal in quality food without the flashy stuff. This a regular of mine and I have... More

Thanh Long on Crown Street, Surry HIlls is a place that's easy to walk right by. Across the road from its showy Vietnamese counterpart, it tends to blend into the background of the usual hubbub that is Surry Hills. When you enter you are greeted by two lovely wait staff that have been there caring for patrons with broad smiles... More

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend after having a very poor experience at the up market Red Lantern across the road. From the street it looks nothing special, however the food is brillant, excellent flavours, great service, we tried the vego pancake very delicate, the duck salad is amazing so tasty, as is the salt and pepper squid,... Some of the best Vietnamese food ive had. Great service and food (expensive though - but big portions so worth it). It's a small place so if there is a boisterous crowd it can get quite loud.
