Good Indian food

Always good food here. We have been eating here over a 10 year period and it has always been good. Occasionally we have had to wait a little longer than desired for our mains to arrive but that's probably because it's been busy.

Spicy Tawa Lamb cutlets: 2-were delicious, the other 2-cutlets had to much fat on them and were a tad undercooked to so they weren't eatable, very annoyed. -Chicken Methi murgh: Was good - Vegetable Rice Biryani: Was awful, sorry but it was. Veges were overcooked, the spices were used to much it was way to strong. -Dal Makhani: Was good. -Plain... More

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. We are encouraged to know that you enjoyed the methi murgh, dal and naan. Our lamb cutlets are normally quite deilcious, however sometimes the quality of cutlets can vary. We are very serious about quality control and taste at Maya Tandoori. Came here for a surprise birthday dinner, and from start to finish the manager and staff were extremely accommodating and helpful in organising the event. They gave us a private room, let us bring our own cake in, and didn't make any faces when we ordered 6 dishes between 12 people. The service wasn't fast per se, but the waiting... More

Food was great and staff was approachable. But you may wanna think of adding staff to your resto on a busy nights cos it is usually packed and only 2 or 3 are serving. Front staff is approachable too but always very busy. Also ordered delivery and it was late (really late!) the driver said he had to take a... More

A nice Indian restaurant with tasty food. It has a private room on the first floor for holding small group parties and functions.

For anybody that's been to India, this is prob as close to the setting as you'll get in Oz - bare wooden tables, tin plates, the basics... We ordered samosas for starter and they were amaZingly spicy, a good size, and only $2.50 each. For main I had the platter with 4 curries, naan, pappadum, and a few other bits.... More

Maya is a long time favourite for Indian food with and clearly popular with those wanting the food they grew up with. Offering a more upmarket experience up-stairs, there is also lots of fun and good flavours to be had downstairs where meals are quick, cheap and generous. Thali's ($16) are very popular, as are the dosa (staring at $10),... More

Great food with wonderful spice complexity, efficient and friendly service too! Plus they don't charge any extra for mint sauce or mango chutney like most other Indian restaurants. 5 stars, will defn eat here again

We were looking for Maya Da Dhaba, and landed at Maya Tandoor (They are across the street from each other)... Didn't realize till our bill came that these were under different managements, and not the same owner! Irrespective of that, the food was great... Good and courteous staff, and good on the pocket too! Must visit if you are in... More

Staying in Surry Hills

Neighborhood Profile
Surry Hills
Once regarded as the traditional fashion area, Surry Hills has broadened its appeal. This neighborhood continues to distinguish itself as a shopping destination, offering the best collection of one-of-a-kind boutiques, designer brands and flagship stores in the city. Today, this area has evolved into a hub of media, design and professional services - a colorful and diverse place equally known for its antique dealers, art galleries, cafes and pubs. Strolling down the street on a Saturday morning, you’ll see a mix of students, artists, hipsters and a few all-nighters from Oxford Street, the “Gay Capital of Sydney”. In this vibrant neighborhood you will find bohemian chic and modern style co-existing side by side.
