We were a group of eight people and while the service was polite and prompt the quality of the food served was pretty average. My wife and I shared a sushi and sashimi mixed plate and a rainbow roll. The flavors of the roll were pleasant but the rice was not cooked properly or rolled tightly enough and the roll... More

The food here really wasn't to my taste, and I found it overall to be quite grim. I ordered a beef teriyaki bento box for dinner, which cost around $15. The accompanying gyosa was rubbery and pale. The food was edible, but for $15 I can think of much better places to eat. One upside was that the service was... More

The atmosphere here is casual modern dining, with some light and tasteful theming - but not overdone. Well priced range of dishes, including classics like teriyaki chicken which are amazing. Moderately priced with a busy feel, its a great restaurant for quick meal with friends, but probably not for a quiet restaurant to spend the entire evening at. Once again-... More

very ordinary food. japanese food made with too much batter and designed for australians - not good japanese. service was polite; the place was not too busy but first course took more than half an hour and then it all arrived fairly quickly. Noisy, so hard to have a conversation without shouting.

The food is very good, the prices are cheap and you can always get a table. The sushi is very high quality and the teriyaki chicken is amazing! If I had to find a negative, it's that it gets really noisy. The wine list is basic but the prices are as cheap as buying it from a bottle shop. This... More

Looked busy enough to think it may be a good place to eat however could not get out fast enough! Food was extremely below average both in service and food. I would say it was typically mainland Chinese. The Sukiyaki was more like a Singaporean or Chinese steamboat with No TASTE. Cancelled the rest of the meal and we left.Imitations... More

We have been to Asakusa a number of times, we stay close by and find that there is always a table available. The service is prompt and very pleasant. More importantly, the food, especially the 'cold' items, are really great. The 'cooked' food is also good, and the 'dinner sets' are really worth a try. Excellent value, we will return... More

This is one restaurant that’s a must do if you like Japanese food on a budget. The prices are affordable and the quality high, with plenty of volume. It has been 10 years now since returning from Japan and we regularly enjoy a taste some of our favourite dishes when visiting Sydney.

Asakusa offers fantastic value for money, first and foremost. The atmosphere is, what I would call, University chic. This is Newtown and they know their target group. The food is wonderful, and delivered by staff who are curteous but never intrusive.
