Mamak provides diners with the perfect taste of Malaysian cuisine, and transports the taste buds of travellers back to the satay stalls and curry vendors of Kuala Lumpur. Dining there for one night left me craving the familiar taste of roti and satay, so much so that I returned there again the next day to sample more of there simple,... More

If you have ever been to Malaysia, you will find this place nothing special. Could not really see what all the fuss was about. Food was good but not worth queying for.

Second visit to this restaurant whilst visiting Sydney. There are usually queues to get in, as this was a Thursday, didn't have to wait too long. Was worth the wait. Authentic food. Roti, satay, lamb rendang,Nasi lemak. All excellent. Noisy atmosphere but didn't spoil our experience. Paid a few dollars corkage for BYO wine. Ample portions, left no room for dessert.

The queue outside was a little daunting but we had heard that it moves quickly and it proved to be true. After 10 minutes the 12-15 people in front of us were seated and it was our turn. A cosy table for 2, a great menu, and Satays and Nasi Goreng were our choice. The food came quickly and was... More

Amazing blend of Malaysian and Indian - very tasty and very fresh. We had the Roti Tisu for dessert and it was a work of art - like eating sugared air!

Every time we are in Sydney this is always the first place we go to eat. If there is a queue - joint it. You will not be disappointed and watching the guys make the roti fills in the short wait as it is never a long wait. The food is incredible with very generous servings and at a reasonable... More

This was okay. We were really looking forward to it but it was not as good as we hoped. They did have the courtesy to come to the table and ask if we wanted to get more as the kitchen was closing...so we got another mee goreng. We were disappointed in some of the food - the reviews we had... More

We popped in for lunch without booking and were seated immediately (however when we walked by at 515 pm there was a queue of 20 people outside!) The lunchtime special menu was superb offering a good range of dishes for $12 the chicken curry was excellent. Prompt and excellent service and good value for authentic, delicious Malaysian food. For some... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighborhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theater, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
