This was my second visit to this restaurant, and I was not disappointed. The bruschetta was fresh and tasty and our pasta dishes were very nice. The gnocchi is hand made and definitely a step up from the ordinary. I just loved my porcini risotto. Portions are generous, but the staff are more than happy to box any leftovers. It's... More

I went there to carbo load before city to surf having not been on a Saturday night for a while. The vibe is only exceeded by the food. I loved the arabiata and a salad with rocket and parmesan. The gnocchi is also just lush...for desert I had both tiramisu and the panecotta because I couldn't decide. I still don't... More

I first came here around 20 years ago and I love that so little has changed. Still wonderful pastas, salads and first rate service. The specials are still written on butcher's paper and are still fantastic - recommended dishes are the spicy sausage polenta and the duck ragu - however I rarely go past the lasagne. It's rich and made... More

This little Italian restaurant is quite difficult to get into as they don't take bookings. However, it's worth persisting. The food is great and as close to authentic Italian as I've had for a while. The bruschetta is divine as is the homemade gnocchi and risotto. I'm not usually a dessert person, but I could have easily gone a second... More

This is what real authentic Italian, cooked well is all about. Great ambience and customer service. Complimentary to how wonderful, silky and flavorsome the pasta was. We will definitely be coming back!

Arrived early to the usual line up and was lucky enough to get a table on a busy Friday night. The service as always was prompt and attentive. I have eaten at this restaurant quite a few times and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately I found the food to be really average this visit. The lasagne was flavourless, garlic bread over... More

A classic BYO Italian restaurant in Surry Hills. Wonderful dishes such as the beef carpaccio. Thinly shaved beef with fresh slices of pecorino cheese slices, rocket leaves and a dash of balsamic. One of their trademark dishes is the duck ragu. Tender, rich gamey duck meat ragu on a bed of soft pasta. Great value for money FYI for the... More

I was missing Italy and was told the homemade pasta at Il Baretto was as close as I would get. It's a small place with no reservations taken so my friend and I went around 7pm and didn't have a problem being seated straight away. Service was slow and they didn't ask to refill our wine glasses so I just... More

Not many places like this left in Sydney. Always great food and excellent service. The seafood soup last night was a standout - but pasta always great. A real neighborhood atmosphere but very cool.

We have been to Il Baretto many times and once again last night. Food and service wonderful and deserves the accolades it receives. The only problem is popularity...even at 6.30 we had an hour and a half wait for a table. The Bar Baretto down the road is a nice place to wait where you can get a first course... More
