The Malaya is one of the most consistently good restaurants I have eaten at and always delivers. I've dined here many times over the years and always look forward to and enjoy a Malaya meal. The banquets are a great choice when you have a number of people and they are very filling. The staff are always attentive without being... More

I've visited Malaya a number of times over the years for both leisure and work dinners. The service is always good (attentive and friendly), the menu is comprehensive (offering a broad selection of meats, seafood and vegetarian dishes), and the view over King St Wharf is great. Their set menus are a great way of getting a broad selection of... More

Dined with a large group of 24. The service was first class and the food was excellent. There was more food than we could eat. The staff keeps your water glasses full and the food coming. The perfect place to take your family or work group for a great dining experience.

We walked into the restaurant and were immediately impressed by "the buzz". Having made a reservation earlier in the week, we were escorted to a quiet table(if there is such a thing in The Malaya) and our drinks order was taken almost as soon as we sat down. Our waiter could not have been more obliging and even where there... More

While visiting Sydney we were able to meet-up with old friends we had not seen in several years. Since they were in effect the "locals", they made this restaurant choice. And it was a good one. I had visions of Satay sticks and headresses, but got an open kitchen, extensive menu and panoramic harbour views in the large rectangular room.... More

Upon arriving without a booking, we were shown to our seat and happy to be given a window seat due to the view of Darling Harbour. The service was excellent with the timing of the entrée and meals, re-filling waters etc. spot on. The meals are a really good size and very tasty. The beef rending was the best I... More

I hosted a midweek dinner for interstate colleagues at the Malaya. It turned out to be a feast of Malaysian influenced delights starting with steamed prawn wraps in a thick kecap manis sauce and chicken sang choi bow. Mains included a satay chicken curry, lamb curry (really nice, meat flaked apart with chopsticks), flat noodles and salads. We ate our... More

Wife and I had the signature menu and it was pretty good. Of the seven items on the set menu, the Kapitan King Prawns was the only miss, the sauce was too milky and bland compared to the rest of the menu. The coconut beef rendang - just delicious, really rich, perfectly cooked meat. Best starter was the Otak Otak,... More

We have dined here twice and the food has been great each time. We had the banquet last time, and while it was a little spicy for my liking, it was very tasty. Great view of Darling Harbour.
