Average Malaysian food but great water views

The place was quite busy and noisy for a Monday night. We had a table for four by the window which was lovely. We ordered one of the banquet meals. The popiah was definitely not Malaysian, the spring roll wrapper was hard and the sauce did not suit the filling of the wraps. The fried rice noodles... read more

I left it late booking a table for Valentines Day, and a set menu meal here was all I could get so wasn't expecting too much. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, the food was superb. We'll definitely be back to eat A la Cart on a 'normal' night.

This is my third visit to The Malaya. On the previous two occasions I was with a large group of colleagues/friends and we had banquets. Dishes were quite ordinary. I was with 2 friends this time so we had a la carte. We picked 3 random entrees ( vegetables and tofu wrapped in a banana leave, seafood spring rolls and... More

We had a really enjoyable meal here, great views, buzzing atmosphere, and delicious food. Excellent service too. Tables for two recommended as they are by the windows. We went for the taster menu and loved it. Don't go crazy on the first dishes though, as you will want to save room for the mains.

We have eaten here many times both as a couple and as part of a large group. This is truly one of the best, if not the best, Malaysian restaurant in Sydney. One of its strengths is the consistently high quality of food. We had dinner here just recently. We ordered some of our favourites, Otak Otak (you must like... More

A class above most other restaurants I have been to with my family of 4. Great personalised service, consistent long term staff (this tells you even the staff are happy to work there), attention to detail (allergy precautions for instance). They produce excellent food of sufficient quantity, great pricing, and I would be proud to take a business crowd as... More

This was the venue for a business dinner, so it was meant to impress. The menu was preselected, so we had a nice sampling of the food which was nice. Try to get a table with water views and be sure to ask if there is an adjacent private party. During the dinner, there was a loud group with a... More

We made a reservation after seeing the reviews for the restaurant and because it is in the Darling Harbour area. The restaurant was packed when we got there, and was still completely full when we left on a Wednesday night. We decided to go with the $65 set menu and ordered beer with it because wine didn't seem like the... More

I came here on a Sunday night with my family to celebrate my brothers engagement. He had arranged for a large table and a set menu for around 16 guests. I've never had Malaysian food in the past and was told it can be pretty spicy. With that in mind, I did keep an open mind and was willing to... More
