Authentic but ........

I was invited by a business associate for dinner. I have heard so much of the "best Malaysian" food in town. I was not disappointed at all. My associate ordered from the menu so, I trusted his taste buds. Service was a wee-bit slow but we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes all the way to the pulut... read more

We had lunch at the Malaya with friends and it was a very popular venue as it was packed, this did not affect the service or food as both were exceptional.

We were a family of 6 adults and had requested a balcony table. Unfortunately the weather was appalling so the view was affected by the screens and the tumultuous rain. Our table was dark and gloomy so we requested candles to brighten things up but they didn't make much difference really. We waited ages before a wine waiter arrived. We... More

I first went to the Malaya when it was in George Street over 20 years ago. At that time the food was great, the surround & service less so. They have moved on and the surrounds & service are top notch and it is pleasing that The food is still great. We'll done Malaya.

A friend of mine took me to this awesome find. Fantastic service, great setting, and the food - WOW. We shared the chicken san choy bow for entrée (perfect), and then the kapitan king prawns (good) and coconut beef rendang (has now become one of my personal top 5). btw don't forget to book.

In our first night in Sydney, we were looking for a nice place to eat in Darling Harbour, close to our hotel. We chose the Malaya, since our friends are huge fans of Asian food. The restaurant is classy, though it does provide you that casual and inviting feeling. It is quite spacious and the views are amazing, overlooking the... More

The place was quite busy and noisy for a Monday night. We had a table for four by the window which was lovely. We ordered one of the banquet meals. The popiah was definitely not Malaysian, the spring roll wrapper was hard and the sauce did not suit the filling of the wraps. The fried rice noodles was also a... More

I left it late booking a table for Valentines Day, and a set menu meal here was all I could get so wasn't expecting too much. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, the food was superb. We'll definitely be back to eat A la Cart on a 'normal' night.

This is my third visit to The Malaya. On the previous two occasions I was with a large group of colleagues/friends and we had banquets. Dishes were quite ordinary. I was with 2 friends this time so we had a la carte. We picked 3 random entrees ( vegetables and tofu wrapped in a banana leave, seafood spring rolls and... More
