I dined at the cbd hotel a few years ago and walked away quite underwhelmed. A revisit to the more recently rebadged Bistrode for a work function has me looking for an opportunity to return. Olive and anchovy tart entree was very, very good and the baked sirloin main was wonderfully cooked medium-rare, even if the cut was a little... More

There is no doubt this is a hidden gem in the CBD. The Mains are some of the best in the city, particularly the steaks, and the ambience was wonderful, which is a real surprise given its location. The let downs were the service quality was consistently clumsy and the starters were poor. Id recommend taking the starters and service... More

Just returned from a business dinner for 30 people at this restaurant. This was my first visit since CBD became Bistrode CBD. I loved it then and its just as good now. We were a large group spread over three tables, but service was no trouble for a group this size. Orders were taken quickly and all the meals arrived... More

I really loved this place and am surprised it doesn't rate much higher in TA. I think the reason that is, is that it has developed into a local Bistro without too many visitors frequenting it. This is no mean feat for the heartland of Sydney dinning Surry Hills. Just note that there is another restaurant in the city called... More

Visiting Sydney from US and had been doing a great deal of upmarket dining. Was taken by a local to Bistrode in Surrey Hills for a little light relief. what a joy! Lovely canopied shop front entrance - very bistro. Quite small - maybe 30 to 35 diners and a mix of sort of Franglaise style bistro fare. Great winelist... More

The waitress although pleasant was pretty stressed out- I would be too with a full restaurant and basically being the only one on deck- granted it was mid-week but the place was almost full so hence, we waited quite a while to get served- we both had the grass fed steak- bit too grey for medium in my opinion- just... I wanted to love it - but I didn't. In fairness, my entree of pupkin tart was possibly the best tart I've ever eaten - and still it couldn't save the night. Between corned beef coming out in a big puddle of water, the cold restaurant (even with heaters!), or the female owner sitting behind us and loudly discussing childbirth... More

Quite disappointed - food took too long, service poor although food was good the other things let the experience down (not to mention place was bloody cold!)

This one is a hidden gem. It is a great experience for any lover of fine food and wine. The reataurant is simple, neat and tidy as befits a place where the focus is on food and wine. Our meals were cooked to perfection with strong emphasis on flavour and friendly presentation. Terrine and eel entrees were a joy and... More
