Don't let the exterior fool you. Go in and try their amazing melt in your mouth dishes. There is a calming Zen-like feel inside the restaurant - no fuss polished concrete table and minimalist décor. My husband who normally hates sitting at communal tables, felt strangely comfortable. Although you're sitting close to other people, it feels private and intimate. Then... More

From the moment we arrived I knew we were going to be delighted. The restaurant has one big table of polished concrete - sounds austere but it actually creates a great feeling of being in an authentic Japanese small venue in outer Tokyo! We selected the tasting plate for four of us and were treated to a range of well... More

The chic decor is followed up with clever japanese dishes. It's not cheap but I keep going back . It leaves all the Cheapo Japanese places on surry hills for dead

I used to live (almost) above this restaurant over five years ago. It always looked a little dark and foreboding from the outside and it's location just off Oxford Street in a dingy side street does not help. However having gone in, just before I moved away, proved the exterior totally wrong to the food. The sushi menu here is... More

After reading the reviews on here, decided to give this place a go on Saturday night. Made a reservation a couple of days in advance. Upon arrival, found out that the table had been given away and had to wait an hour to be told that we had been moved downstairs to the communal area. OK, not the end of... More

So turns out Uchi Lounge is a veteran on the Sydney dining scene, but I had not heard of it until Mr T told me his restaurant choice this Tuesday evening (yes, occasionally I do allow others to make a restaurant choice). Uchi Lounge is a modern Japanese Restaurant - Izakaya - Sake & Shochu Bar (try saying that after... More

Lovely little restaurant, offering wide variety of Japanese food, and saki. Serving staff very helpful providing recommendations. Options for tasters. Fabulous alternative to standard noodle bars or more busy restaurants. Everything in Sydney seems to start/close super early, so get there earlier rather than later.

We had the set menu, together with a very special peach and lemon-grass sake - it was fantastic! The food is very tasty and beautifully presented. Each course was absolutely delicious, some highlights included the eggplant and the fantastic sushi (probably the best we ever ate!). The service was wonderful and it was great to eat in such a relaxed... More

Stumbled across this restaurant by accident, wow! what a find - the food is authentic with a contemporary twist (including specials every night), great selections for vego's, they have a brilliant range of Sake (including organic), Shochu and imported Japanese beer, the green tea cream and cinnamon brulee is a must, the staff are very helpful.
