Thai taken to the next level

I went to this restaurant simply because it was close to central station so we could meet up with a good friend. Soon afterwards we were sampling some of the best food -ever- we'd had in Sydney. To put this very simply ... very underwhelming. The banquet really wasn't that good. My local thai restaurant does better food. Staff are not that good either.

Familiar with the Melbourne Longrain, I expected good quality food and we were not disappointed. Admittedly we came quite late and we're not looking for a lot of food, just a top up. The serves were very generous, especially the BBQ'd lamb which was strongly flavoured, tender and delicious, including the accompanying sauce and deconstructed salad. The pork was divine.... More

In a city of over hyped and over priced restaurants this one takes the cake....You sit in the middle of an air craft carrier and eat food shoveled on a table....the staff must be on a commission basis as they keep INSISTING that you order more and more mains at $45/main. There is no earthly reason to come here and... More

We had a larger group so were able to book a separate table. The food was simply outstanding with exceptional flavours and very distinctive and creative presentation. Our favourite dish was hard to choose but the red peanut curry, with Cape Grim beef, chilli, and lime leaf probably took the prize. The price was not over the top, and given... More

Our son wanted us to take him to Longrain for his birthday, however as Longrain only take bookings for groups of 6 we waited an extra week when we had more family in Sydney. There was little waiting for the dishes. I loved the signature dish of Filled Eggnet, sweet crunchy bamboo shoots with lots of surprise flavours. The whole... More

If you after something a little different for the taste buds then this is it. The menu has a lot to offer for all tastes and great to share a selection of tapas with everyone. It is quite surprising how the places come out and you think there is not much there to eat, but you will find the meals... More

The interior of this place is a little too airy, with warehousy kind of feel. There are long tables shared by different groups and couples, so not an ideal spot for a private dinner. We ordered bettel leaf wraps which were very tasty followed by a dish of lamb and some rice. The lamb was exceptional with minty sauce ,... More

Another meal of consistently memorable and innovative Asian flavours perfec for sharing with great wine from a consistently high quality list. We have eaten in many wonderful restaurants, some make a splash then gradually go off but Longrain remains at the top. The service is always stunning, speedy, and friendly and we like being remembered by the Maitre D even... More

Overall we found the flavours a bit over the top and too rich, there was no subtle hand in the kitchen that night. Highlight was the roast duck with basil starter but maybe that was because it was the most refreshing of the flavours. Pork hock was just too much sugar. Red peanut curry with Cape Grim beef was too... More
