I have to agree with other reviewers, this is very average Spanish food and I would not recommend it. The seafood combo dish for two was ok but the Potatas Bravas was a poor imitation, as was the garlic bread. The highlight was the sangria which was excellent.

Anyone who rates this restaurant higher than terrible truly doesn't go out much. The food is bland & the service is awful,, they do not try to please you. The matrade / owner was rude & unpleasant. We were there for lunch in a large group, they took our booking for 2.45pm (late lunch) and then almost denied us dessert... More

My partner's father (who is Spanish) wanted to dine out in the Spanish Quarter (completely misnamed now, considering the Spanish Club is now a Chinese restaurant, and there most of the other places have closed down), and we ended up here. It was absolutely dreadful. We were served by no less than four different waitpersons throughout the night, and none... More

Been visiting this place for 20 years and always sit at the bar. Love the banter with the staff, simple good tasty food, large portion sizes.

The reviews on TripAdvisor are quite different to Google reviews on this restaurant. I went with my partner. We ordered chorizo, garlic prawns, Jamon Serrano, scallops and patatas bravas with some house red. The prawns were awful, frozen and cooked with vegetable oil not olive oil and served in a watery thawed ice soup. Gross! The house red was nice... More

I have visited this restaurant several times throughout the years but this last visit was a disappointment. The potatoes were obviously over boiled and floury before being tossed in a bottled like tomatoe sauce. The meatballs were ok but lacked real flavour. The calamari was rubbery and chewy. The egg omelette was cold and flavourless. The best part? The garlic... More

I have been going to Capitan Torres since the late eighties, when I used to work just around the corner in Sussex St. Its two signature dishes (if you can have two) are the garlic prawns that come sizzling in an earthenware bowl with crusty bread and washed down with excellent Spanish beer, and the suckling pig. The decor has... More

Have dined here often over the years. Jose is as much an icon as the restaurant itself. Food was great as always
