Brought my friend here for her birthday and had the best time. Staff were so great and provided excellent service. The mixed reviews had me thinking, but Billy Kwong delivered. Yes the seating was backless stools, but we didn't find it squashed or cramped at all - we enjoyed the atmosphere and direct view into the kitchen. If you haven't... More

I've been a fan of Kylie Kwong for some time her book Simple Chinese Cooking is an absolute must for any keen cook. We caught her at the market at Redfern on Saturday morning cooking up a storm and this just heightened my anticipation of a visit to her brother's restaurant in Surry Hills on the Sunday night. I was... More

Birthday meal for my son. Great food, fresh, tasty, hot, different from other food. Staff were very efficient. Went to the early sitting but felt no pressure to leave before the next sitting.

The food was everything that was promised. Delicious, fresh and delightful. The vegetarian San Choi Bau was to die for. I guess you expect restaurants like this one to be busy and so the wait at the door, even though we booked and the slight squashiness was to be expected and not so bad. I didn't like the speed at... We loved our meal at Billy Kwong, thanks really to the staff, who were able to decipher the artfully written specials and offer suggestions on food combinations and matching wines. We felt a bit lost without them. The food was stunning (crispy duck, noodles, greens and fresh crab dumplings). I loved the surprise of tasting local Australian ingredients. The setting... More

Four of us ate there about 2 weeks ago and found the food disturbingly tasteless and massively overpriced. 4 small tasteless scallop dumplings for $28 - pork sang choi bow watery and discarded by all - wallaby tail something, an insult. The owners are price-gouging and should be horsewhipped. They insist on 2 sittings and our booking was 6-7.50pm however... More

While the food here was very tasty, I just found it way too expensive. We did have the banquet as it was a 60th birthday. While we left very full, most of the dishes included in the banquet can be sampled in downtown Chinatown. When you're paying $95, I expect a culinary experience I'll remember for life. This was not... More

We visited Billy Kwong as a group of 6, initially we were a bit hesitant about the prices, but once our waiter explained that all the meals are designed for sharing, the prices became more manageable. We shared 3 entrees and 3 mains between us, we felt quite adventurous ordering the dishes with crickets and meal worms, every meal was... More

Yeah this place...went there for a special occasion. We had a reservation and after some confusion , managed to sit down. Very cramped ...with good chance of the dumpling from the table next to you landing in your lap etc ...but that's ok , I will buy that in the name of an authentic kitchen experience. BUT ....the food ...oh... More

Loved everything about it. Fantastic and adventurous food and the staff were great. The duck was the highlight and I loved how they brought everything out as it was ready as we shared everything.
