Real good food, real good vibe

I came to Mary's by recommendation by a friend who said the food was good. Mary street is a pretty dingy side street, and the entrance to the place is pretty dingy, walked in and wasn't prepared for he loud heavy music inside, not at all to my taste, but by the time the senses adjust to Mary's it's... read more

Visited for the second time recently as I wanted to try the fried chicken. I wasn't disappointed - beware if you have an aversion to oily fried food! For me, it was heaven. To be honest, I like the burgers too, American style, although they are really just like a Macca's cheeseburger on steriods. Someone has gone to a lot... More

Second time here, to give it the benefit of the doubt. Group of four. Off-peak visit. Usual Aussie bar-staff - i.e. confusion as to who is next. I don't get it; It's one of very few tasks asked of bar staff - keep an eye on customer arrivals, clear a queue and remember 4 or whatever drinks at a time,... More

This place never fails me, simple burgers with the best service in Sydney. This place is well priced and amazing, good for pre drink meals as it is a little loud and dark in there.

Today I dropped into Mary's city outlet on Castlereagh Street to check out all the hype. Maybe as an ex-pat yank I expect more out of a $10 burger. The Mary's burger should be more like a $5 burger compared to other options in the city. What I had was thin, limp and salty, and lacking in flavour. The fries... More

Does feel like you are in another world when you get there. We got seated and told where the water was but wasnt told if it was table service or where the menu was so was just left wondering until we had to go up and ask. Burgers were nothing to rave about in the age of gourmet burgers but... More

Ordered the cheeseburger, fries, Slayer juice. You can really tell these guys are good at first bite. Chips are also good but the burger is why you're here. Slayer Juice was good too.

Drop into Mary's a little early than 7.30pm to avoid the line of people salivating waiting to get into the what looks like an old church. Menu is limited and focussed on a great burger and best tasting fried chicken. Mary's entry look non descript and a little grungy......dark, loud......give it a go. Easy to get to from Sydney.....10-15 minutes.

This was a great experience, our tour guide was very educated on his role, taken down to the underground of Mary's close. Learning about the plague, and life before the many levels of buildings were made. What you could own, where you could live, what happened to you if rules were not followed. A great place to go and learn... More

This was an unexpected treat. Easy to be put off by the non glamorous entrance and long queue. However, the food was awesome. Best burger I have had in Sydney by far. Surprisingly decent wine list and huge choice of spirits. Very loud and music not to everyone's taste but totally makes the atmosphere - and drives the high turnover... More
