Excellent Food at Holy Basil

On the recommendation of my Sydney cousins we went to Holy Basil, a Lao/Thai restaurant inside the otherwise ordinary looking Shark Hotel in Liverpool St. (Its just bizarre to find this restaurant separated off but in the middle of a pub - but perhaps its just me showing my age) It was an excellent... read more

Came in last night with my husband for the first time. Hands down the BEST Thai food I have eaten in Sydney! The fried ice cream; damn! The waiter; Patrick; great service, friendly and was happy to answer our million of questions. Happy to say this is now my regular date night venue. I will tell all my friends about... More

My wife and I went here for dinner at the Thai restaurant and the service was disgusting, the staff all stood around & did nothing, and the food was rubbish, what a waste of money.

My friend and I have visited so many restaurants (we are in the process of creating a food blog) and It was by far the WORST experience I have ever had with any restaurant. The customer service as shocking and I left the place feeling humiliated and furious. Don't risk ruining your night with this shocking place. Just look through... More

Came here with friends for an early birthday dinner! The service was really good, the staff are all nice, food is top quality! They have an amazing selection of drinks and smoothies but the highlight of our meal was the fried ice cream. It is beyond amazing and I havn't had any other type of fried ice cream since because... Delicious Laotian (similar to Thai) food! Because it's in The Shark Hotel, the drinks are reasonably priced. We love this place and have been several times for a semi casual dinner! The Massaman and the whole fish are our pick of the menu!!

I have eaten in this branch of Holy Basil 3 times. The food is genuine Thai/Loatian style. The salads in particular are excellent. My only cricism is that it can be hard to get the wait staffs' attention - but it is always busy so its not because they are lazy.

I am very disappointed with this place. My friend got kicked out shortly after he got in to the Shark Hotel because he was 'showing signs of intoxication', when I asked what signs the manager said he wasn't walking straight. The thing is, he was not drunk, he had an accident years ago and several surgeries on his legs that... More

Very good, very affordable Thai food in the southern part of the CBD. Everything on the menu is extremely well executed, especially the duck curry, the massaman curry, the pad thai and the pad see ew. Don't leave without ordering the deep fried ice-cream - one order is plenty for 4 (polite) people to share! Waitstaff are just as good-natured... More
