Service was exceptional at the restaurant. Food better than your average pub food. Ambience was second to none with a crackling fire place.

I'd read some ordinary reviews about this place but went along anyway and it was excellent. Our party of three all ordered steak, it was cooked as we all requested, servings were generous and we all agreed that the quality was great. It wasn't cheap by any means, $35 for a steak at a pub is pretty steep, but there... More

Great local pub food. We had teenagers and a younger child on a recent visit and everyone was very happy with their meal. Steak was apparently decently done and teamed with a glass of red for $18.50 was considered good value by my husband. I had the Shenzhen squid and the beetroot salad and was very happy with both. We... More

This pub was highly recommended by a local. We tried it twice and were disappointed on both occasions. We had to send the food back both times, and we're not that fussy. just want food to be cooked properly. The nice a pie that sound yummy came still cold in the middle. when it came back the pastry was burnt.... More

The food is shocking, steak sandwich burnt & very dry and way overpriced! Better pubs & food in the main street of Balmain. Pub is also out of the way and has no atmosphere whatsoever. Everyone at our table had received their meals and finished them, we had to wait another 20 minutes after this for ours, even though we... More

I have visited this pub on many occasions since we returned to Sydney and always received good service from good staff and good pub food which is good value. Monday night is pie and a pint night and there are other specials on different nights. The trivia quiz is on Wednesdays but for me there is too much noise around... More

We visited the Royal Oak through the week for lunch it was very quiet, we enjoyed a good atmosphere, great table service and the food was better than expected for a pub. Surprisingly the food was served to our table all together so no one waited for their meal. If you want to sit down with friends have a quiet... More

Went here sat night , service was terrible - rude wait staff, Food was bland and had lamb shanks that were super fatty. Have been a few times over the years and it was always good , wont be going back

Seriously lovely food here and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back. In fact I went back again, so twice in the space of my visit. A lovely place to warm the cockles, and a great atmosphere. Not quite the traditional English Pub, but that's ok because this was a very lovely Australian Pub! Great setting to hold a function in.

We had been to a meeting upstairs and decided to try the restaurant downstairs. It was State of Origin so plenty of people in the front bar but a little quiet in the restaurant. We opted to go with two entrees. Sichuan Squid $16.50, which was seriously yummy with just the right amount of chilli. Duck Pate, $14.50 which was... More
