Will never go back and I live 40m from this place. Very disappointed given it was quiet especially for a Friday night.
We were surprised to see some of the recent reviews for our experience was of a very friendly bar with caring staff and very good food. It wasn't the cheapest in town but all plates were completely empty when we finished and nothing had to be cut off our steaks - all the meat was lean. We will certainly return... More
I loved the Welcome. Pints of Guiness, steak and Guinesss pies, free matches to take home and keep in your cupboard. The place had it all, including the locals that made you feel like a local. Since the ownership change the pub has lost that unique feel. It's charm replaced by a standard balmain boozer. Sure the food is okay,... More
I was expecting something special for dinner as I thought Dan Mulligan from Pilu was working at the Welcome now. Smoked trout entree was very ordinary, beef steak for the main very delicious and panna cotta dessert was beautiful BUT we really had to pay a high price that maybe some of the dishes deserved but the venue was so... Now I am back in Sydney for a while and suffering from huge jet lag we decided to have lunch in a familiar place. I now see from previous posts that they are under new management we were hungry so ordered beef burgers and they were pretty good, we would have had pies but they were not on the menu.... More
I am a local and have been visiting The Welcome regularly for about 12 years. New management have decided to remove the most popular item on the previous menu - The Beef & Guinness Pie, and replace with an inferior Chicken and Leek Pie. It's a real shame and the boys have suggested going elsewhere for our monthly catch ups.... More
This place used to be a solid local in Balmain. New owners, high prices and a terrible bar menu will soon undo the great reputation of the welcome.
I love this pub and have done for years, however they've recently changed the menu which from what I now understand from previous reviews is due to new owners. There is always a great atmosphere in the bar and the courtyard out the back is a fantastic spot.
My wife and I went for lunch mid-week at the Welcome. New management had taken over, and we were interested to taste what was happening. It was a frank disappointment. For $135 we got three courses and a bottle of wine. The best thing about it was the wonderful gnocchi, rather spoiled by a heavy handed bolognaise sauce. Apart from... More
We were a party of six with two bithdays to celebrate, Had great drinks in the bar beforehand. Booked a table for six in the restaurant for 7.30. The bar food coming out looked great and patrons seemed happy, The restaurant had only on other table occupied, which was not a good sign. We shared three entrees. The zucchini flowers... More
