Ajo Restaurant - Combination of Italian / Sardinian and Pub Food

Ajo’s seasonal Menu is presented very neat and clean including an array of Primi (Cold and warm Appetizers) such as “Fregola (type of Sardinian Pasta) risotto with Queensland spanner crab, almonds and marjoram” which was very tasty and had a great texture (crunch from the almond slivers), prepared... read more

Dropped in for a quick lunch with an old friend. Surprised at the sophisticated menu.. Swordfish entree was sublime as was my friends risotto. Desserts were amazing, the Almond semi-fredo bordered on obscene in size, yet was elegant but also robust. The young waitress was fantastic, knowledgeable, but not boring. Will be back when I can enjoy the meal with... More

Tucked away in an old pub in a quiet street in Rozelle is Ajo Restaurant. What does the name mean? Is it Japanese? No, the name, pronounced "eye-o" is Sardinian dialect for "Let's go". I'm not sure the name is a good choice, but the place is terrific. The room is nicely designed and lit. There is a veranda area... More

Wonderful, imaginative and tasty food with friendly and efficient service. Great wines and a pub attached whose beer list runs to three pages! A great night out.

Used to be good, honest food. But now, with higher prices and a "more fancy" menu (read: less choices, smaller portions, and higher prices) it falls well short of what patrons expect. Waitstaff are slow, inexperienced, and unaware of what their role is. When we asked for a slight variation to a dish we were informed that this was not... More

We visited the fairly new AJO fine dining Italian Restaurant at the Welcome hotel. Amazing high class service with genuine Italian wait staff. Good was just Devine and faultless. I had the Zucchini Flowers for entree while fiancé had the Pappardelle with Pigs tail ragu, both impressively larger size entrees and cooked perfectly. Mains I had the Pumpkin Culurgiones (like... I’d read the Herald article listing Ajo in the top 10 Italian restaurants in Sydney and as I live nearby I was very happy to make the booking. The room in the Welcome Hotel is very comfortable and the staff welcoming. And I enjoyed our meal but I left feeling underwhelmed. Maybe I couldn’t find the right dishes for me... More

A group of us who dine out regularly came to the Welcome restaurant to try their Sunday lunch degustation menu. I have to so all in all it was disappointing. At best some dishes scampi, oysters and fish were average. The service was good however it was the food that let this place down. For $75 we should have asked... More

Having been a 4 or 5 times a year regular at the Welcome for many years I was surprised and initially slightly disappointed recently to find that the restaurant was under new management. I decided to dine there anyway and had a great meal with excellent service, The restaurant has been stylishly refurbished and the overall vibe is really good,... More
