Bills Surry Hills opened under the hotel on Crown Street in 1996. A great spot - since then, Surry Hills has transformed itself from a quiet rag-trade area of Sydney to the centre of the city's media and arts communities and its restaurant hot-spot. The open kitchen at bills Surry Hills is lively and fun all day: locals pick up their coffee or fresh juice on the way to work; friends chat over brunch; business lunches are held next to prams, backpacks and the occasional celebrity; and neighbourhood families drop in for an easy dinner.

Worth the revisit

I went to Bills about 3 weeks ago early(6.30.pm) on a Friday night with my husband. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was very good the food was great. Limited wine menu but at least they had good Australian wines on the menu a rarity these days in Surry Hills. We will certainly be back.

We went for breakfast at Bills and had to wait which we sort of expected but the breakfast was just ok ! and I certainly wouldn't go back. We are lucky enough to live in Margaret River and our little local bakery beats Bills everytime for service, brilliant food and atmosphere !

Having eaten at almost every restaurant in the Bills group and enjoyed it, I have been taken aback at the dreadful service at Bills Surry Hills. We attended for lunch today and got the same consistently surly attitude from the staff. We decided to leave after we had menus shoved into our hands to take to the table ourselves!

Certainly the place to go for fresh, varied and delicious breakfast fare. I like my coffee extra hot and was served an almost perfect coffee which is sometimes hard to do when it's hotter than usual. The breakfast zucchini fritters with deep fried egg was terrific made more so because they accommodated my liking for scrambled eggs by giving me... More

If you are looking for a very varied menu where every item is exceptional this is the place to go multiple times. Great staff great service and just the best food. I live in San Francisco and this Sydney place tops most restaurants there by a mile. The best desserts also. I hear their breakfast is awesome too.

Yes it's in a trendy suburb and looks/feels modern/trendy but the breakfast is overrated just because it's "bills". Any decent breakfast place can make eggs/pancakes and or muesli. The food tasted good and fresh and it should for the reputation and price. Not outstanding , but above average for food and service. Though as I said , any good quality... More

I was there for dinner on Friday - we started early to avoid the noisy crowd, and it was a good strategy. Food was great (especially pancakes) but wine selection was almost non existent. The whole venue gets very noisy after 2000hrs so I would recommend to start early if you want to enjoy the good and atmosphere.

Stumbled across Bills while in Surry Hills Arrived at 8pm and was seated straight away, the place had a great atmosphere and vibe to it and the service was fast and friendly and each dish delivered with a smile( always makes your food taste better) We had the crab, chorizo and kimchi fried rice that was good but the stand... Very cool and chic and so busy with regulars and passing trade. There were 3 of us but 2 got there early and as there was not a table available inside we sat outside but Stephani our waitress promised to get us inside as quickly as possible as it was very hot already even at 9am. So we had a... More
