Best bakery in Australia (the world?)

Silo makes the best bread and tarts in Australia (the world?). Their take-away rolls and dine-in meals are simple and delicious. It has, however, become (in)famous for the staff (and owners) attitudes to customers. You're doing well if you get out of there and the staff have just been... read more

This was our second time at Silo & again it just failed to get better than average. Maybe if we had bought some bread we might have added to the experience but whilst the tarts were excellent the coffee was average & the staff appeared to have the attitude that we were a little below them. It is noisy &... More

I have eaten their thrice for lunch and bought the Vollkornbrot, I am myself german do I know the bread it read ok but but great, it was also nearly burnt. The food is good and solid, I suspect quality has a place here. The coffee is rather lackluster but safe. But now in regards to the staff, I have... More

Every time I go to Canberra (except on Mondays when Silo has a rest day) I go to Silo for breakfast, lunch or just a well-deserved decadent pastry (to go). You can smell the goodness (butter and coffee are big influences) as you approach and then on a cold Canberra day you get the lovely buttery, bread, coffee embrace as... More

I went to Silo for coffee with friends. One of my friends ordered a flat white and received a very milky latte. When she advised the female waitress of the mistake, she just looked uninterested and walked away without offering to exchange it. But the food looked delicious, so I decided to give it another try for lunch with a... More

Silo has a great reputation, but we were given 'meh' service. We ordered two flat whites, but two lattes appeared in long glasses. I pointed this out to the waiter who said 'well, there's not much difference'. Our food was OK, the bread a tad burnt. It took forever to pay the bill. So, whilst the place was buzzy, I... More

Had a wonderful lunch here. The coffee was excellent too. But the best bit is the bread - on our trip to Australia we have found the bread to be very average. But the bread here at Silo was superb - just like being back home!

Okay it was thursday before easter and the boss was away. Staff were clearly wanting to get away for the holiday. Because of the quality food I eat here several times a week. But today the service was disastrous.I placed my lunch order and almost an hour later was told it wasnt coming. At all. Not "we are sorry we... More

I bake and I eat out (a lot!) so I am extra fussy. This place is one of a kind. I have never seen or tasted tarts this delicious. If I could pick this cafe up and move it to Melbourne I would. The classic tarts are there e.g. lemon, creme brûlée but also all kinds of interesting ones like... More

We arrived in Giles Street and tried to find this venue. We parked in front of Kingston bakery, and said this can't be it as there was no one inside but a few doors up the street there it was. People standing outside and all the tables taken. This is not your typical bakery. It has quality items with prices... More
