Totally overpriced, like many people here have stated. Always too busy, and always crowded with snobby researches taking whole four person tables for themselves... Thats what inside the library is for! Every time i decide to give this place a chance when i am starving and have spent a whole day completing painful essays, this place manages to let me... More

I always take a deep breath as I enter the National Library. Will there be a queue in Bookplate? But even if there is, everything buzzes along nicely. I get annoyed at various bookworks and researchers sitting over one coffee in the most comfortable sofas and best tables, but it is hard to be cross for long. Menu - delicious... More

Ludicrously overpriced and the coffee is, without fail, always terrible. Any merit in the friendly service of the wait staff will consistently be undermined by the unnecessarily high prices Bookplate charges.

This has become our preferred coffee stop in this precinct, surpassing our previous favourite the Portrait Gallery. Great coffee, excellent choice of cakes, etc, and very friendly staff.

I love Bookplate and have eaten there many times. I never tire of the great location and beautiful views across the lake. As family was visiting from Sydney this was a great place for brunch/lunch. Reservations are not accepted so get there early (about 11.00am) to secure an outdoor table. There is also an indoor (lounge style) area if the... More

Excellent outdoor seating on an elevated area looking across the lake. Good coffee and food. On colder days (it is Canberra!) you are better seated inside.

I love pancakes - and set high standards, I enjoy something different - so when it was suggested to visit bookplate, we thought why not! Service was great, and the food was OK, but the pancakes (ricotta hotcakes) were stone cold, fresh, but super cold - as if prepared earlier that day, which is fine, but at least warm them... More

Located in one of Canberra's iconic institutions, the National Library of Australia, this is a popular meeting spot for coffee or lunch. The surroundings are excellent, with good space between the tables. Food and drinks are ordered at the counter which is then delivered to your table. The selection of cakes was limited and the sandwiches were less than inspiring... More

We have been to this café many many times for lunch. Whether a simple sandwich or a hot dish, it has never failed. They cater for all tastes in the menu. We have been for celebratory lunches or for a quick bite. The standard is high and the service is good.

The best aspect of this cafe is its outdoor terrace with great views across the lake. On a cold day, however, one is left with an ordinary indoor cafe with stunning stain glass windows but no view. Food is average cafe style and standard with prices at the upper end. Considering you have to queue at the counter to order... More
