We are a cafe that believes in the simple and healthy things, done well. This applies to all aspects of our food and beverages that we serve to our customers. We celebrate food and make what we can by hand. From our bar we offer fresh pressed juices, fruit smoothies, classic and craft beers and local wines. Stop by and have a chat with our highly skilled baristas who can provide consistent delicious coffees and teas. We are located within the National Library of Australia, with a warm and inviting indoor dining space as well as an outdoor terrace with magnificent panoramic views of Lake Burley Griffin. We are the Winner of the 2015 Savour ACT Restaurant and Catering Awards of Best Tourist Restaurant.

The setting is very interesting - ornate stained glass windows with no access to natural light. My husband and I chose to sit outside of the cafe proper, in the National Museum foyer looking out on the fountains, as it was quieter here. The food was fine and we didn't wait for our meals of a bruschetta and a soup,... More

Pleasant sunny Sunday morning overlooking the Lake just wonderful! Mrs Merlot and daughter Merlot have been here before and recommended to Vin. How right they were a pleasant stroll from the Canberra Park Hyatt. Interesting varied breakfast, the fruit juices a speciality eg immunity juice (carrot apple and ginger), water mint (watermelon, lime and mint). The girls said it was special.... More

The Bookplate is a 'Must Do' in Canberra. It's the perfect place for lunch when exploring the Capital. The view over the lake from the terrace complements the fantastic menu and excellent service. Although we ate out on the terrace, we passed through the inside dining room which has beautiful stained glass windows. I had one of the specials 'Gazpacho'... More

An excellent way to dine casually before exploring the exhibitions of the National Library. Great value, with plenty of options to meet dietary needs.

We had our Christmas lunch here with my work team. $29 each, with bubbly, a main and a desert. Choices were restricted but something for everyone. They were very good with managing dietary limitation. It would be great if it wasn't so expensive on a normal day. Lunch at bookplate would be delicious.

Bookplate has long been a favourite, but new owner Tracy has maintained the upgrade she established when she took over Bookplate 12 months ago. The food is of a consistently high standard and the staff are busy, efficient and yet give an air of relaxed casual ... Which makes it relaxing and enjoyable as a patron.

I had a delicious Asian salmon salad here, but felt the price was high at $26 for lunch. The day before I had a slice of cake and a pot of tea $12 at a business meeting. The food really is very good, but the prices are too high.

After touring the National Library we came across this cafe located on the ground floor. We had a light lunch which was very tasty and had we had enough room we were sorely tempted to try one of the delicious made in house cakes. it was a very busy cafe but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Bookplate is located in the National Library of Australia. It has light meals including some vegetarian and gluten free, selection of wines, and some very yummy desserts. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing and at the inside tables you can actually hear what your companions are saying. Outside had a lovely view of the lake and inside has those... More
