Great coffee

Loved the atmosphere of this cafe with the stained glass windows. Coffee was great, delicious homemade cakes. Limited menu, we had brunch. Food delicious but small serves for the price paid.

A group of us have been visiting Bookplate for lunch regularly for the past 5 years. This was our first time since it reopened and while it might have retained that lovely relaxed and eclectic atmosphere, that's all that is the same now. We all chose fish and chips and were all disappointed in the quality and size of serve.... More

After our regular walk around the lake today we decided to have lunch at Bookplate. We shouldn't have bothered. We ordered at 12.30. Our coffee's arrived as expected though they were luke warm. After half an hour we inquired as to when our meals would be coming. We had noticed people who arrived after us had been served. We were told... More

Well, you can at least get a parking spot now, thanks to parking meters in the previously free parking area -- which public servants working nearby would fill up all day. It's not cheap if you're studying at the library, though, at $2.50 per hour (I feel for students). I also feel for the students who work long hours in... More

We have always enjoyed going to bookplate, whether for a meal and a glass of wine overlooking the lake, or simply a quick coffee. The venue is lovely and the food has alway been good. Under the new ownership the meals have stepped up a notch. The new menu spans a great variety of tastes and flavours. The wine list... More

A great place to grab a coffee after a visit or for a lunch with a great view. Understated service with great food.

All four of us ordered fish and chips for lunch. The fish was dry, overcooked and very much looked as if the fish had been frozen, it was definitely not fresh. The salad, which was a separate side dish was tasty and fresh. The coffee was also disappointing it was luke warm and weak.

The food and coffee is fine. But it is just like every other generic cafe so nothing special with this one.

I have been surprised to see that Bookplate is so under-frequented since Tracey has taken over. The food is similarly lovely with good price points and similarly friendly service but regulars must have changed their habits during the interregnum! Can I encourage everyone to give Bookplate another go. The new management has implemented a slightly different look and feel -... More

A visit to the National Library and its cafe, Bookplate, was the perfect way to spend a sunny autumn afternoon in Canberra. A stroll through the well stocked bookshop was a pleasure. The foyer and exhibitions areas are relaxed and inviting. Afternoon tea in the Bookplate Cafe treated us with a divine slice of Chai Spiced Cheesecake and very good... More
