We loved the location with the stained glass windows letting in light across the Cafe. Alternately, you can sit outside, up high, and look across the lake. The service was professional and quick for such a busy time of Sunday brunch. We definitely will visit again. Good food too, is always a bonus!

Long queues only to find poor and limited choices that take ages and cost way too much. If you eat outside look out for stealing birds and get one of your party to mind the table as others steal it quickly even if you leave something showing someone is sitting there.

We enjoyed a Saturday lunch here (Canberra was pouring that day) and I was impressed by the service and also the relative informality. Love the fish and chips and service was quick, prompt and polite. Interestingly, the house rules are that between noon and 2pm patrons shouldn't be using the tables for laptop, tablet work, etc, but I saw a... More

The Bookplate is a very special to me; it's where my husband and I got married. It provided a sophisticated venue, outstanding catering including a range of food and beverage options and personal service from the gorgeous owner, Rachel. She made our day. Thank you to Rachel and the team. The Bookplate is also a lovely place to go for... More

What a treat to find such a nice place with a great outlook near major venue in Canberra. Decor not over the top but service was very good and nice simple choices for a late lunch - great coffee

Great views, great food. Not sure why they think the super large cup of coffee makes sense. It gets cold before you can drink it...but I am just being picky

I visited here for a work lunch. There was a queue to order food, which shows you the popularity of Bookplate. But it didn't take to long for our orders to be delivered. You can eat inside or outside on their expansive deck which has stunning views back over the lake. The meal was very nice and the menu selection... More

The National Library is a treasure house, beginning with the stunning Leonard French stained glass in the entry hall, where Bookplates is. The food doesn't try to be chic or expensive - it's usually light and full of flavour. With a glass of local wines to go with it. Maybe out on the terrace beside the lake. There is no... More

This place survives in its current state because it is remote and people need a coffee while doing research or as part of the visit to an exhibition. It is pretentious and overpriced. At one stage it only took cash which was totally against its projected status as a coffee shop at an international tourist venue. Stop by if you... More

Totally overpriced, like many people here have stated. Always too busy, and always crowded with snobby researches taking whole four person tables for themselves... Thats what inside the library is for! Every time i decide to give this place a chance when i am starving and have spent a whole day completing painful essays, this place manages to let me... More
