An unusual place (in a good way)...

This is a peculiar little place (in a good way) and reminded me of some sort of back-alley drinking den from Victorian London with its rat-run feel to it and lots of quirky little rooms and corridors leading to inside and outside seating areas. This isn’t say the place is dingy/dirty or anything... read more

This is a lovely place for either a meal or a drink. Food is ostensibly traditional pub fare, but is really quite a bit classier than that. A good selection of well kept real ales is always available. Dogs are welcome downstairs. Upstairs is lovely too for a slightly quieter time (not that the downstairs is especially rowdy). Friendly staff.

Last night I visited the Prince Rupert for the third time. The first time the food was delicious. The second time it was not good at all. My friends and I gave it the benefit of the doubt as we enjoyed it so much the first time, and the pub itself is lovely. Unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed with the... More

Every time my wife and I visit Newark we always stop in at The Rupert for a bite to eat. Beautiful building in the heart of the town with small cosy rooms and nice furnishings. We have been visiting this pub for several years now and are always greeted with a warm welcome every time. The food is of excellent... More

Found it difficult to find at first but so pleased we did as it had great atmosphere and brilliant selection of beers! The meals choice was very good and the three of us all enjoyed our choices of veggie burger, surf and turf and cod loin with salad. Portions were generous and young staff very pleasant and attentive. Sort of... More

My first visit here. We sat upstairs in a lovely old room as it was busy downstairs and we wished to talk. Our food when it arrived was piping hot, plentiful and delicious, ranging from pizza to fish and chips and a large vegetarian platter. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. This pub has a great atmosphere and would also... More

Most nights out in Newark involve a visit to The Rupert (well in my circle of friends anyways). I like The Rupert, been visiting for the past few years, it's quaint charm, cosy atmosphere, real ales and friendly bar staff make it somewhere you want to visit again and again. Until last month, I am ashamed to say, I have... More

Popped in with my girlfriend on a trip to Newark on a Saturday doing a bit of sightseeing around my old stomping grounds. Nice selection of ales on so had a pint and decided to get something to eat. Oh my God was it the right choice. The garlic bread was great and the red onion chutney was a nice... More

Great food, in a busy town center location. Great range of beer and wine and the place is always buzzing with people. Really nice place for a lunch or dinner, food always good and tasty.

The bar staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The food was delicious and fresh my cod with the thai trimmings was delightful.
