We'd stoped off in Newark on our way back to nottingham and stumbled over this place for lunch it was very nice inside light and loverly there were several dogs in there so I think it has lots of regulars. I had bacon and Brie sandwich and my husband had the sausage sandwich with a side of garlic and rosemary... More

Very nice pub with interesting menu. Lamb shank pie lovely but bubble and squeak ruined by the addition of horseradish - not an added ingredient you would expect in this dish and spoilt my meal. My husband had a good pizza.

Had an extremely good evening meal mid week. Went upstairs to the timbered roof space and it is beautiful. The game pie was great and the accompanying veg just perfect in separate mini pots and pans. Will return when next in Newark.

We stopped for lunch at the Prince Rupert on our way to Yorkshire and thought it was great! The inside is very cosy and they were still serving mulled wine which made everything feel very festive. We both had the fish and chips which was delicious and the portion size was huge. All of the food at the other tables... More

Two meats on offer, lamb or beef, both were superbly cooked to perfection, vegetables were fresh and hot , the chantenay carrots were cooked to perfection slightly crunchy as I prefer but cooked, the jus was flavoured with a red wine reduction, and the cauliflower cheese dish came out piping hot with cheese sauce, overall one of the best Sunday lunches... Six of us visited this pub and sadly couldn't get a table downstairs as too busy. The best tables are downstairs as much more atmosphere and far cosier. Went upstairs and had really super, imaginative food however there is always far too much food! None of us had room for pudding which was a shame. The portions could be reduced... More

my wife and I were in Newark shopping and popped into the rupert for lunch. My wife had the koftas and meze, and I had the taste of the sea. The food was well presented, decent amount of food and great tasting. Service was great and the atmosphere in the pub was homely. Will certainly be returning with friends in... More

Great food, very accommodating service, lovely staff and they keep the beer very well. This is an example of a pub done right, never had a bad pint or plate of food here and if you come on the right days you will get some decent live music. Inside they have worked with the buildings character rather than against it... More

We visited on the lunchtime of the last working Friday before Christmas. It was very busy, and there were thirteen of us. There was a slight hitch with our order (quite understandable, considering how hectic it was) but the problem was rapidly and smoothly put right. The food was first class, (real, fresh hand cut chips -so rare these days)... More
