Lovely country food pub with great food.

Situated opposite the church this village pub has a very cosy feel. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the service is very good. The steak sandwich was cooked to perfection for each of us. There is a lot to choose from on the menu. There is a really good choice of sandwiches at... read more

Walked with the Dogs from Long Bennington On Sunday 19th July 2015 mid afternoon. Signage outside clearly stated Pub was open ''All day Sunday''. It was not. Also noticed lack of any flowers or hanging baskets outside the Pub. Spider webs cover the external outside facing lock. Cigarette butts in an empty flower pot right outside front door indicated some... More

We went because of the good reviews and am now giving the Wheatsheaf another one ! It is nice to find a pub which is so friendly. The food is tasty and the portions are generous. No need to ask for water it comes automatically which is a nice touch. There is a restaurant and there are a few tables... More

Yesterday we enjoyed a celebration birthday lunch for my husband, with friends and family at the Wheatsheaf, and it was perfect. We could not have picked a better venue. The party consisted of 15 adults and 3 small grandchildren, and we were accommodated in a private room off the main restaurant which opened up onto a patio. The table had... More

We were riding around the local villages looking for a country pub with character that did traditional Sunday lunch and came across the Wheatsheaf. What a find, we decided to go for two courses, wish we hadn't as the portions were large. We had to wait for our food as the it is cooked to order but well worth the... More

We stopped off here again coming back from our bank holiday weekend trip at Eastbourne as we were on the A1. I love this place, they seemed to have changed the menu to more traditional home cooked food menu and I can say that although I liked the previous food they put on this does fit in well with its... This is our second night at this superb pub in a charming country setting with easy parking. Great food, great prices, fresh flowers, cloth napkins, quality, quality, tasty quality! My fish and chips were delightful. Last night's pork roast special had such big portions that my wife and I joked to Steven that we should seal the leftovers up in... More

Booked here at short notice. Found the staff to be very friendly. As it was such a sunny day we choose to eat at one of the tables outside the front overlooking the village church. It was lovely watching the dog walkers and cyclists going by, all of whom said hello as they passed or stopped for a chat. The... More

We visited this pub on recommendation from a local, what a find... Attentive and friendly staff, excellent beer and food! Nothing was too much trouble! Offered to give tasters of the beer, asked if our friend who didn't eat his bread if he had an allergy and needed gluten free bread etc etc! Absolutely lovely barmaid who wanted everything to... Traditional pub food menu, so don't expect trendy fancy. However all home made and very well presented. It's a long time since we've been here and we were very pleasantly surprised. Dog welcome too! Add this to a great rural location, outside tables for a pre-dinner beer, lovely friendly service and it made for a wonderful evening. We will be... More
