Third visit still great

We stopped off here again coming back from our bank holiday weekend trip at Eastbourne as we were on the A1. I love this place, they seemed to have changed the menu to more traditional home cooked food menu and I can say that although I liked the previous food they put on this does fit in well with... read more

This is our second night at this superb pub in a charming country setting with easy parking. Great food, great prices, fresh flowers, cloth napkins, quality, quality, tasty quality! My fish and chips were delightful. Last night's pork roast special had such big portions that my wife and I joked to Steven that we should seal the leftovers up in... More

Booked here at short notice. Found the staff to be very friendly. As it was such a sunny day we choose to eat at one of the tables outside the front overlooking the village church. It was lovely watching the dog walkers and cyclists going by, all of whom said hello as they passed or stopped for a chat. The... More

We visited this pub on recommendation from a local, what a find... Attentive and friendly staff, excellent beer and food! Nothing was too much trouble! Offered to give tasters of the beer, asked if our friend who didn't eat his bread if he had an allergy and needed gluten free bread etc etc! Absolutely lovely barmaid who wanted everything to... Traditional pub food menu, so don't expect trendy fancy. However all home made and very well presented. It's a long time since we've been here and we were very pleasantly surprised. Dog welcome too! Add this to a great rural location, outside tables for a pre-dinner beer, lovely friendly service and it made for a wonderful evening. We will be... More

Nothing was too much trouble. They say customer service is suffering today, well not in this establishment. It was refreshing to be able to have a conversation with smiling staff. My wife did not like what was on the menu and they went out of their way to accommodate her eating habits. The whole experience was great. Well done. We... More

We ordered a couple of hot sandwiches from the lovely couple behind the bar: a stilton sandwich and a sausage one. They both came with a lovely salad, but I would say that they could each have been cooked through a little more. Nothing unsafe, but the onions with the sausage were quite firm and the stilton needed to be... More

My husband booked a table for my 70th birthday. First of all I must say thank you to Steven and Joanne for the birthday card, was very thoughtful of them. Have not visited The Wheatsheaf since the new owners took over, but was not disappointed the food was delicious my husband enjoyed his sirloin and I really enjoyed the duck.... More

A lovely pub with well presented excellent food. The chips live up to the great reviews! The hot sandwiches are delicious but come with French fries not the acclaimed thick chips. The service was friendly and not intrusive. The only criticism was that the room was rather cold despite a lovely log burner.

located on the A1 between Grantham and Newark Dry Doddington is a lovely village ( check out the church spire ) and the wheatsheaf is the jewel in the crown still a " local " in the pub sense, with a lovely little restaurant included. locally sourced produce direct from the farm greeted with great friendliness by the "regulars "...
