Over three years Marco Pierre White completely ruined a renowned village pub and restaurant by trying to make it into something it could never be! The food was mediocre, the service was diabolical and there was no choice of beer. Such a shame. The pub is currently closed and awaiting the arrival of new owners.

Due to staff difficulties the Pear tree has closed. See the National Press for details. The future plans are not known at the moment but the local hope it will return to a pub as it was before MPW took over.

It is to be hoped that the new owners will recognise that the potential of this pub/ restaurant depends on actually providing a service that customers enjoy- not just a part of an investment portfolio.

Strange location. Desperately in need of a gardener. Nobody around to welcome us and very dark!!!!! Room dull and small. Very ordinary menu and wine hugely overpriced. Could not wait to escape the dreariness of the whole place. Sorry - won't be returning, EVER

Gorgeous flavours. They know how to make a steak and not shy with the chips at all. The sorbet was soooooo good too. Pleasant restaurant with interesting menu and friendly staff.

We were due to stay last weekend however the bolier packed in. We were called at 3pm and offered alternative accommodation or another date. As we were 30 mins away after a 3 hour journey we asked for alternative accommodation. We were called back within 30 mins and offered a stay at the Carnavon Arms and sent full details. Polite... A party of six ladies visited. First impression was odd - we couldn't find front door, very overgrown? After finishing our main course which was ok, our plates were removed and that was that! NOBODY returned to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee! After 3/4 of an hour chatting etc we gave up, and one of our party went... More

Dined here as part of a LivingSocial weekend away package. We stayed at the nearby Rudloe Arms in Corsham (another of the MPW branded establishments in the Wheelers Group of restaurants and hotels). The Inn is set back from a quiet road in the village. There is a large car park and initial impressions of the Inn were good. Like... More

After years away, we felt a meal at the Pear Tree was in order, this was a return visit and oh boy, have things changed. The service was slow, the food was vey average. We got the impression the place is closing down(or needs to). What was a delight in years gone by, it seems the place is just about... More

This place has certainly gone down hill and you get the feeling it's only a matter of time before it changes ownership. I would describe the experience of eating here as frustrating......firstly I had to send smoke signals to book a table for a Friday night table. I rang the pubs number beforehand it was dead. I sent them an... More
