Sitting by the window and seeing village life

I suspect the building dates back to Georgian times and the bar area has a nice spacious feel. The plain tables and other furnishing suggest that it might well be populated with locals in the evenings but not at lunch on a Saturday. The welcome was warm, the service efficient but not pushy. The... read more

Have visited this restaurant lots of times and have always had a lovely meal. Visited a few weeks ago. We were given a table next to the door to the toilets and where the two boys waiting walked back and forwards all night, each time we had a cold blast at our table. The menu consisted of a few items... More

I recently returned from a wedding in the far south east of Turkey - in the ancient city of Diyabakir. An amazing city and well worth a visit. It was a wonderful experience interacting with people who were able to live in the moment and who had such an understanding and perspective of the important things in life especially with... More

We had a most enjoyable meal. Our early arrival caused no problems. Both starters arrived with little delay, were well presented and tasted excellent. The main course (bream) was cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were ample. I would certainly return and would recommend to anyone.

Our walking group had a booking for 12 people for lunch. We duly went to pre-order before the walk and I asked what the fish on the specials board was. I Was informed by the very pretentious chef that it was Chard (type of salmon) on potato rosti with side vegetables with hollendaise sauce. Myself and a friend ordered this... More

In many ways this was the worst review we received because we went out of our way to help you and give you an enjoyable lunch. Perhaps that is why our responses is this robust. You have the privelage of writing anonymously from your home - so please expect a correction or two from us now. Perhaps we can help... More

We went first to this inn on a busy Saturday evening and after a long drive when we needed just a drink and a light salad. The chef was very helpful, discussed our needs and quickly made us a light but delicious salad. Our next visit was for lunch when there were eight of us, including a 3 and 8... More

Last year I had a very unpleasant experience at the Swan - which the owners chose to think of as mean - but it was accurate at the time. However, I like to believe that people are entitled to their opinion - and that is what TripAdvisor is about surely? I am happy to report that I believe that particular... More

Very friendly staff. My mum and I ate here this evening. It was really nice. We popped in as we were fed up with driving along the A14 and decided to check out the village. Woolpit is a beautiful and cute little village and the Inn is in a beautiful setting within the centre of the village. My mother had... More

On a recent visit to London, I decided to spend some time outside of London. I picked Suffolk and found the Swan Inn at the Woolpit. It is between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmonds. Like a lot of English villages, this one isn't huge. It was a small and quaint part of England. Good honest folk, getting about their business.... More

My fiancée and I had a wonderful one night stay at The Swan Inn as we were invited to a friends wedding nearby. The village of Woolpit is charming, feels as though stepping back in time. The menu was varied and everything we ate was absolutely delicious! Well cooked, friendly service. I can't understand one of the reviews complaining about... More

Another excellent meal in this very friendly, relaxed pub. They manage to combine a very high quality of beautifully cooked food with a relaxed, but charmimgly formal service in a beautiful village pub. Plan to spend the evening there; you'll have a great time and freat food.
