Hidden Gem

Stumbled upon this restaurant - fabulous character. Lovely staff and excellent food. Their slogan 'once found never forgotten' is certainly true.

Very ordinary and nothing to say wow! Dry needed more dressing to salad for my taste but no options. Profit orientated I guess

The warm welcome from our hosts was the start of an excellant evening .The menu, although not extensive, was sufficient for all palates. The size of all of the courses was quite generous and really hot(apart from the scrumptious desserts), just like food should be. The location although off the beaten track it was well worth the visit and shall return.

It was one of the best meals I have had for a very long time. I am a coeliac ( gluten free ) and often eating out is a disappointment, especially desserts. There was a choice of 2 proper gluten free desserts and I chose the chocolate fudge cake which was lovely, a real treat. My husband had the crumble... More

This is dining at its best with charming, character surroundings, charming staff and yes i mean genuinely friendly and charming staff! plus great food. We are fortunate that this restaurant is only located a couple of miles from us and is a bit of a hidden gem. The menu's are adventurous, satisfying and great value. There is a charming and... More

Had Groupon vouchers for this friend-recommended restaurant. To be honest, was expecting a pub so surprised when we found it was part of the stable yards of an old country house (now a nursing home). Great location and very friendly welcome. Food was terrific as well - I had pork loin for main and it was cooked to perfection with... More

I always wonder how to review somewhere that was great on the first visit and then when you go back its not so great or maybe its gone to pot. Needn't have worried here! this place still rates as one of our favourite places to eat, great food, well cooked and beautifully presented. I said before and I'll say it... More

This was our first visit to the restaurant, impressive driveway but beware of vicious speed bumps! We were driving slowly but still the car scraped over one or two! Pleasant entrance into area previously used as stables and now used as reception and bar. Pleasant staff who showed us to our table in oak panelled dining room. Tables set a... More

I went to lunch at Dark Horse with a fairly large group. The starter was OK, but the Main Course was not very special, most of us left our chips! Our table of eight, was not all served together and, in fact, although it may be OK for couples, I felt that they did not seem able to cater for... More

Nice restaurant in an unusual setting, the welcome was of the kind expected from this sought of venue, the staff where most courteous, the meal we had was quite acceptable although the some of the vegetables could have been better cooked. This venue is ideal for that something out of the ordinary experience.
