Well worth the drive out of Bury, Stowmarket, Thetford

Rural Suffolk has plenty of top-notch middle-of-nowhere treats, and this is truly one of the best. Secreted away at the back of a country house being used as a residential home is this humble restaurant, lovingly run by a welcoming couple. The former coach house and stables have been converted... read more

I along with a group of friends called in for coffee. It was a beautiful sunny morning and the journey very rural but the Dark Horse looked intriguing. We were greeted very warmly and shown into the dining room, passing through the bar area which still has the format of the horse stalls, it was pleasantly decorated and very sunny... More

Off a small road and down a track to behind the nursing home, it was a bit of an adventure to find but well worth the effort. Old stable block made for an interesting setting for some really nice food. I had chicken and chorizo as starter - no thin slivers of sausage either, good meaty chunks. The venison casserole... We booked to use The Dark Horse for a private family celebration for around 35 people. My husband and myself were the only 2 members of our family who had eaten here before, so it was on our recommendation that the venue was chosen. Without exception, everyone loved the setting and atmosphere of the Dark Horse, from the original flooring... More

I have wanted to come to this restaurant for a long time and when we read a write up in the local press, we decided to go on the off chance for New Year's Eve. The restaurant is definitely out in the country and if you are looking for something different, then this is the place to be, with quirky... More

Have eaten here before whilst under different management. Revisited as in the area and our last visit was 5*. This visit, well, was such a disappointment. Firstly the service was extremely slow as only 1 person serving. We were asked for a drinks order prior to meal. Was never asked for any further drinks throughout entire meal, asked for a... More

For several years this restaurant has had mixed reviews locally. Recently there have been one or two good write ups in the local press so some friends and I decided to try it for lunch. Three of us had slow cooked belly of pork and I had risotto. My husband and one friend said the pork was only lukewarm, there... More
