Welcoming gastro pub with dog friendly area

Very impressive cosy but light airy interior, the Mill Race is certainly somewhere I will return to despite having very little, due to my dietary requirements, that I could eat. They source their ingredients as locally & responsibly as possible (which is important to me). The three staff who... read more

Popped in on the off chance and initially told there was no room. As we were backing out of the car park a member of staff kindly came and told us there had been a cancellation and we could have a table. Went back in and had a lovely dinner. Started with the squid and then shared the beef rib,... More

We called here initially for a late lunch and were served a lovely soup and sandwich meal by friendly and helpful staff. My friend wanted to treat me to dinner on New Years Day but phoning around we discovered that nowhere was open, including the Mill Race. The restaurant manager very kindly suggested that they could squeeze us In For... More

The stylish new contemporary look and layout are great. All ingredients are locally sourced and with its family ownership there is a real feel of community where visitors to the area are warmly welcomed. Menus are extensive and creative with delicious options. Quality of food is excellent and matched by attentive staff. It is both a local pub/restaurant and a... More

Lovely location, clean and modern pub. Friendly staff. Varied menu but only two main choices for vegetarians. Ordered the veggie wellington for £12 expecting a hearty plate full of food. The reality was a slice of wellington with an accompanied gravy. Don't get me wrong, the wellington was delicious just no where near enough of it. Considering the portion sizes... More

Menu based on locally sourced produce so nothing on the menu was particularly different. However it was cooked and presented well. One item was missing from my dish which arrived about 5 minutes after I had been served. The apology and reason for it being late was done so nicely that it didn't spoil anything. Restaurant staff were both friendly... More

Was out for a day's country road driving and came across this place unplanned and stopped on a whim because of the roadside sign and easy access parking. So glad I did. I got a really warm welcome as I walked in and tasted a couple of the beers to help make my choice to go with my lunchtime snack.... More

Visited to see if the reopened pub was better than before. With more welcoming seating and less austire lines we thought it much improved. The menu is shorter with a very tempting selection of nibbles, light bites and mains and prices seemed a little lower. We were tempted to eat, although not planned and had excellent mains. We definitely return.

We have been frequent visitors to the Mill Race since it opened, and have enjoyed many meals, and not enjoyed others...so we were keen to see what changes had taken place since reopening after refurbishment. Cosmetically, there were a few changes, none of any great surprise or consequence. Where we did notice a welcome change was on the menu. Gone... More

I have never felt the need to write a trip advisor review before but I really felt After much deliberation I should share my experience. A quick visit to a friends very lovely local that I have visited many times before. Previous visits I have always made to feel very welcome, now apparently with the new management they don't seem... Dear Elsie Mayn Thank you for your recent review, we are sorry to hear that your experience at the Mill Race wasn’t of the same level you have experienced on your previous visits. As you noted in your review, we were indeed in the middle of our refurb and had not ‘officially’ opened to the public. We were hosting a... More
