Bit hit and miss

I had a lovely steak sandwich with a salad, it was served on a piece of slate, which adds nothing to the meal as far as I am concerned. It was an open sandwich with only one slice of bread, it would have been nice to have another slice it was on the dainty side. My husband had a ploughman's... read more

My wife and I called in at the Hostelrie this evening as we fancied a meal in a country pub We were made really welcome and even though we had not booked and they were quite busy but we were found a table after ordering some drinks which were put on a Tab (even though we had not been before)... Very pleasant gastro pub/restaurant, quite close to tourist spots such as Symond's Yat but a little off the beaten track. Menu is well varied, quantities very good, and the quality of the food excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Had to take a 2 o'clock reservation. Arrived at 1 o'clock for pre-prandials only to find a half empty restaurant. So why not my original request for a 1 o'clock booking? Service slow and clumsy. Spilled drinks, utensils dropped in my lap when clearing the dishes and the food wasn't particularly tasty. Although my beef was... More

We were late arriving on a bank holiday lunchtime and some of the menu choices were not available. Gnocchi was excellent as was the cider. Service was OK but to be fair it was busy with people in the courtyard as well as the bar

Very nice small hotel/restaurant with great service, good food and a lovely garden to enjoy lunch in a sunny English afternoon. The village is nice and it is the ideal place to eat if you are going to visit Goodrich castle. Highly recommended

The staff are well trained to make you feel welcome as soon as you step in. Good eye contact and smiles. Varied selection of beers and ciders. The garden was pleasantly filled on the sunny Sunday we visited. Sturdy swings and frame for children far enough up to the garden so they don't annoy! We only waited 30 mins for... More

Stayed in a cottage not too far away and was recommended this pub for good food, not what we got on our visit although, to be fair, one meal was ok. Had to send my meal back because it was cold, my replacement was not only cold but the fish was not cooked. This was midweek & quiet so couldn't... More
