Wonderful food, but....

Stopped as planned en route up Highway 1, place busy doing brunch but that was OK as we just wanted coffee and pastries, so we were served quickly at the counter. Absolutely first class coffee, brownies and ginger scones - wonderful. The 'but' came when we visited the restrooms - disgusting! Both... read more

A favorite spot for us on special occasions, or when we wish to get away for the day! Excellently prepared food and delicious coffee always make us happy to have eaten here. Just plan on the cost. Being that it's far from much, everything understandably costs more-we think it's worth the experience. Be sure to make an advance reservation, especially... More

This is a 'must do' place on the road thru Heaven. We had a great sandwich and salad. It's not just bakery goods.

We just went there for a quick stop on our trip up the Coast and got a bite to eat. Their baked goods are amazing but really expensive. One could say that the location justifies it, but even with that in consideration, they're still on the upper limit of the spectrum. Nevertheless, they offer a great selection of different teas... We were told we had to make dinner reservations so we did. Candle lit fine dining bakery? That's a first. This is not your usual bakery. It puts the world bakery to a whole new meaning. The next table ordered bread and we heard they had run out of bread. Funny that, for a bakery not having bread. Pizza was... More

We stopped early on a Sunday morning before brunch service so had pastries. Wow - I'm not usually a fan of pastries but these were outstanding.

We stopped planning to eat lunch, but had a hard time paying $13 - $16 for a sandwich or $23 - $27 for a pizza. So instead we just had a mocha (for $6.25). At least it was made with home made chocolate sauce (a blend of organic cane sugar, cocoa powder & water). And it had pretty swirls on... More

Okay, the setting was idyllic: wedding on the beach, waves of Big Sur crashing in the background. Later, reception and dinner at Big Sur Bakery. From the scrumptious wood fired pizza (almost flatbread) appetizers, through a delicious dinner (our salad was European in its simplicity - that's a big compliment) ending in bakery-fresh goodies, it was a perfect evening. Our... More

This place is great. My wife and I had a light breakfast here about a month ago. The pastries are fantastic and the coffee was amazing. Great staff, unique location and I will defiantly be back next time we are in big sur.

Great little coffee shop with specialty coffees and teas and delicious pastries. There was a line at 9am; they do good business and service was friendly. I was told the place is very busy in summer. What you should know is this place is expensive. Be prepared to pay.
