I stayed at Deetjen's with two friends and we are experienced travelers. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Our consensus was that dinner was good not great. It was very expensive and while we don't mind spending that kind of money on a great dinner, this did not totally measure up. Breakfast however was wonderful!!!! It was inventive,... More

We were not guests of the Inn, but we were happy diners at the restaurant. Our food was terrific, and our server was a pleasure. What else needs to be said?!

I have been eating and staying at Deetjens for more than 40 years and it is still a very special place. The food is excellent in general for dinner, less so for breakfast. Local produce is used and the wine selection is above average. This is one of my favorite places to visit in the fall or winter months when... More

Deetjen's, sitting in the redwoods of Castro Canyon this restaurant is mostly for people that are guests at their cabins. Guests get advanced reservations so, if you are not a guest, you run the chance of not being seated, or having to wait. The wait, however, will be worth it. Call if you plan to stop there on your way... More

When you park your car in what seems to be a dismal canyon, wait until you enter this charming inn before you shake your heads. This is old Big Sur with such rustic loveliness that you'll be transported back to the early 1900s before you sit down. Food beautifully prepared and served on ancient dining tables. Copper and brass urns... More

We had breakfast at Deetjen's both mornings of our stay. I am always impressed with restaurants that make a great pot of tea, and this one did! The fruit bowl and scone were delicious, although the scone seemed more like a tea bread. My husband enjoyed the oatmeal, and our girls loved the huge pancakes! (They could've split one!) The... We were so surprised to find this fancy restaurant at this little hotel. The food was really good. We ate both breakfast and dinner there, and both meals were fantastic. The dining room was really charming, and the service was great!

This restaurant was highly recommended to us, but we were a little disappointed. The food was very complicated. Far too many strong flavours mixed on the same plate, which meant you couldn't taste the main ingredient, which in my case was king salmon. It was all cooked nicely, but very over the top. The restaurant is very quirky, it's like... More
