Good food, unusual setting.

This restaurant and the little fairy tale cottages for rent are squeezed into a too small hollow off the highway where it's even tight to drive to a parking spot. The restaurant is cozy and crammed with knick knacks and art on all the walls and no table has a view. The dinners we had were good... read more

I thought it would be great based on reviews. Food was nothing special, waitress was ditzy but what really upset me what that two women came in at 9:05 after flying from far away and we're staying at the inn but because it was a few minutes too late they wouldn't serve them dinner. I mean, come on, your registered... More

The resturant is charming, amazing and romantic for dinner. Great beer and wine, a perfect filet for me, fresh veggies and perfectly cooked pasta for her. No room for dessert, but the all sounded like a perfect finish to a very, very good meal. Morning was met with sunlight and a new day to conquer Big Sur, but not before... More

The building is very old with a lot of personality. The parking is very poor, good luck. I ordered the paella, which was very tasty and spicy. It was more like a seafood cioppino with chorizo and chicken. It was good but not the dish I expected. The dessert mousse with berries was just OK.

Even if the food weren't as good as it is a worthy stop when in Big Sur- Just the ambience- one of the most unique places- Hobbit like definitely describes the feel.

We get here about once a year and are never disappointed. Food, service, decor are always superb. Sit by the fireplace or back in the Robinson Jeffers nook - we are never disappointed. We didn't do it this trip, but breakfast is a special treat.

What a special little place with great food and service.. it reminded me of a Hobbit cottage down in the valley with big trees surrounding the restaurant. I have gone to Deetjen's for years and recommend it for a nice romantic dinner.

My daughter had the huge Caesar salad they split the crab cakes. Very good The main courses were the filet mignon which was pronounced as excellent no fat no gristle and cook to perfection. She was a little surprised to find the bacon wrapped around the potatoes but it was excellent. I had the chicken with green beans and greens,... More

Very intimate setting with mismatched tables and chairs, low ceilings and a bit claustrophobic settings, but the fabulous food was spot on.
