We pulled in for a break on our drive down Big Sur Coast. The river Inn is in a lovely setting and has good inside and outside seating. I noted also it had a wonderful looking Brazier that would be really good stoked up on a cool evening!. While we just had a coffee each, the service was good, the... More

And I'm not even an apple pie fan. Everytime I drag someone to SanFran and head down to Carmel, this is a MUST. I would love to spend more time in the area so I can eat more than apple pie here. It is a beautiful restaurant, has a beautiful deck and has one of the most scenic settings.

My wife and I visited this beautiful place on a recent trip to California - big mistake! The surroundings are beautiful but the service and food are the worst we have encountered almost anywhere. We placed our order with a young man who clearly did not know what he was doing in terms of operating the computerized till; eventually he... More

We stopped here for lunch on the way from Monterey to Hearst Castle. There are not too many places around to stop and we were worried it might not have quality food. But we were starving and so decided to take a chance. So glad we did. They are running an anniversary special all year offering appetizers at there 1970s... More

I have visited both in June and December. Great food and the staff is always friendly. In nice weather you can sit out on the large deck and watch the small river. There are Adirondack chairs in the river where you can go and sit and relax.

We were in Big Sur state park for a hike to Pfeiffer falls, which was absolutely beautiful! We were starving and stopped at the nearest stop. We were seated outside on the patio which faced a gorgeous view of the surrounding woods. We were greeted and sat immediately. We ordered the avocado crab appetizer with a crostini that was to... Nice outdoor seating, pleasant waiter, appetizers of sweet potato fries and calamari were decent but not great. I had hamburger for dinner..asked for medium, too well done. My sister was very pleased with the ahi tuna salad and my brother liked the scampi pasta. It was as expensive as Nepenthe and the food was better in the latter.

Best place to eat or to stay. They have it all - the river, many food options - take out or eat in, a pool, a sports bar. Stay here, eat here.

The food was okay. Rooms appeared to be fairly cheap but they gouge you at the restaurant. $50 for a cheeseburger, cup of soups, and brisket sandwich. You had to pay extra for the cheese. They had chairs in the small stream for guests which was interesting. There is also a grocery store and gift shop.

The ribs, brisket and artichoke pasta were great, though we found the portions far too large. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
