My "value" pick for the pricey Big Sur

Great place to have a filling meal after a long day of hiking. The brisket and rib--heavy menu is rustic like the decor and the veggie and mash were fresh. Drinks were also great. Great place to have a filling meal after a long day of hiking. The brisket and rib--heavy menu is rustic like the decor and the veggie and mash were fresh. Drinks were also great. The restaurant started as an apple pie stand and they use the same recipe today--we were charmed into ordering it but wouldn't order it again.

We had one of the most amazing meals for breakfast here. My wife ordered the pan-fried trout and I had the lox and bagels. Absolutely phenomenal. The room had a polished wood cabin look. We were seated by a large window where we could look out and see the beautiful scenery including a very large tree close by. The coffee... More

Excellent food and the setting is beautiful. We sat on the patio overlooking the Big Sur River. We enjoyed a nice lunch and later sat in the river (chilly) in the Adirondack chairs. A very relaxing environment with a surprisingly extensive menu. We enjoyed some central California favorites, seafood, and burgers. They were all very good.

We ordered and received our food in perfectly hot condition. Our waitperson was attentive and my glass never empty. We will definitely eat here again.

I had dinner at the Big Sur River Inn Restaurant on 01/17/15. They had a special on the Prime Rib. So I tried the Prime Rib with a glass of wine for $34.00. The prime rib was well prepare with a nice combo of mash potatoes and mixed veggies. The only drawback is I wish the prime rib was warmer.... More

This was our second journey along Highway 1 but the first time we found time to stop at the River Inn and no complaints from us. The décor had been left out following Halloween so loads of pumpkin Minions in the reception. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating and their was a good choice on the menu and the... More

It is just 4 miles away from Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, where you can't have food & drinks . You can halt here for tasting food of your choice and take a break from the long journey to the beach. You can also enjoy the running River water behind this restaurant , by sitting on the Cement benches provided... More

This is a great place to stop for snacks. Get an order to go and take it out back and have a picnic. There are chairs and tables or just bring your on blanket and lay in the grass. Food is good and the entire location is relaxing.

Atmosphere was terrific and peaceful, service was very efficient, food was good. be careful if you eat outside...bees, but they are quick to clear so that its not too much of an issue. The stream and spending time there was lovely and relaxing, would stop again, the gift shop had many things to see.
