Unexpected dining experience at a remote beach

Ratanui Lodge is an elegant restaurant with great food and friendly service, which is unexpected in a beach holiday location in remote Golden Bay in New Zealand's south Island. Great food and service - the best in the area! We ate here whilst guests at The Lodge and recommend it highly.

Good service, $55 set meal (entree, main, dessert) which is designed to be easily prepared by the kitchen. The main was good with lots of vegetables which is always welcome when you're on holidays and this can be a missing component of your diet. The entree was boring but tasty (basically a savoury muffin) and the dessert was adequate but... More

We had the Christmas dinner there. There are quite a lot of people but still the food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. Beautiful room and upmarket setting. We especially love their tiramisu. Highly recommended.

We loved - location, welcome, care and attention from Steve and Peter, gorgeous and elegant decor in rooms and bathrooms, swimming pool, gardens, food, lady who processed our washing, chats along the way. A perfect end to our NZ trip.

Food was great! But the restaurant is only a piece of the pie (restaurant pun intended) in the overall appeal of lodge and park.

Similar to other venues in the bay, Ratanui offer a set menu that differs each night of the week. The meals are well made and well presented. The table settings and service are of a high standard and with Steve on front of house the evening starts from the time you walk into the venue to the time you leave.... More

The food was exceptional. Coupled with the service, this was one of the best meals and dining experiences we had had in a long time. Thanks so much guys.

Just like the lodge accommodation, the food measures up big time. We had the set evening menu & knew what we were having as the menu for the week had been emailed to us to select which night we would like to enjoy Steve's culinary delights. The menu was personalized & on the table also which was a lovely intimate... More

My Farmer friend and I call Ratanui Lodge "Our Special Place" and having our 6th meal there last week, we were greeted by Steve (Co-owner and Maitre D) with the warmest of welcomes (and a hug for me). Had a leisurely couple of drinks, and probably too many honey- roasted peanuts before embarking on a scrumptious meal. The first course... More
