Description: The George is located on the Harbour in the heart of West Bay, Dorset. This striking Georgian building stands proudly on the harbourside of this popular fishing village, made famous by being the backdrop to the recent BBC Tv series "Broadchurch".The hotel has recently been taken over (01/10/2013) by Chris and Kim and they are busy welcoming guests new and old to The George. The hotel is open all day and serves fresh locally sourced home cooked from the restaurant, including daily specials using fish sourced from the fishing boats in the harbour. The bar serves a good selection of wines and exceptional real ales from Palmers Brewery, located a mile away in Bridport. There is plenty to do in the area, with several of breathtaking coastal walks and leisurely strolls along the beach front. There are several charter boats waiting to take keen sea fishing visitors, or a Rib taxi that will take you to nearby Lyme Regis and return a couple of hours later. Whether you are looking for a adrenalin packed weekend, or simply a relaxing break by the beautiful harbour, The George Hotel is the place to stay. Chris and Kim look forward to welcoming you to The George soon.

Eight of us had lunch here after a walk in the area. We were warmly welcomed and found a large table to all sit together. Lots of choice on the menu and reasonable prices. The meals were all thoroughly enjoyed especially the homemade pies. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be visiting again.

It was so nice to visit somewhere that served something other than carvery on Sunday. Actually the carvery looked fantastic, but we were walking the coastpath and wanted something lighter. A prawns, a fishcakes and a lasagne were perfect for us. All served promptly were great.

We returned to the George at West Bay whilst we were staying in the area over Christmas and New Year. having previously eaten here since the new owners took over and having had some excellent meals we were looking forward to our return visit. Unfortunately we were very disappointed, the meal was mediocre at best, we ordered the scampi and... More

We visited the George on the 1st January, fortunately we had booked a table , the menu choice is brilliant, my son and his father had the legendary gammon which they said was amazing ,it was huge, they struggled to finish it. My husband had the rump steak which was cooked perfectly and came with homemade onion rings to die... More

Kids wanted hot choc but they didn't have kids ones so waitress offered to share an adults one between 2 cups rather than buy 2 - well kids were amazed at size... More

Visited West Bay on a beautiful day late afternoon in November after a day out in Bridport. We looked around for a nice place to eat outside in the sunshine, as it really was such a glorious day. There were a few pubs that we could see, but The George looked appealling, as the seats outside were in full sun... More

Had a walk down to the George on one of our nights stay in Bridport. They had a special offer on their pies that night, 2 meals and a bottle of wine for £22. The pies are freshly made to order and take a little bit more time. 20-30mins but well worth the wait. I had the Steak n Kidney... More

We recently enjoyed a bit of a pub crawl around West Bay and this pub was probably our least favourite. The atmosphere was limited and the drinks more expensive than we paid elsewhere. There was a cool old school arcade game we enjoyed playing, but not enough to make us stay for a second drink!
