Not impressive

The chips are ok but the fish is very small and way over priced. I wouldn't go there again to be honest.

Having not visited the Mermaid Fish Restaurant for several years, I was pleasantly surprised with the recent tasteful refurbishment that complimented this dining experience. Rarely, it seems nowadays, is our traditional dish of fish and chips cooked in beef dripping. They tasted delicious. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient, and the three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Portions... More

By far one of my favourite restaurants, the fish and chips are the best in the country! A great piece and a great good old fashioned dining experience! The staff are always attentive and the the place is always busy and clean! Also they have always been great accommodating our large group when we visit! Deffo worth a visit!

I don’t’ think I’ve ever said this about a restaurant before but here it goes: I HATE THIS PLACE! Have been on a few occasions over the years due to being forced to for parents birthday wishes, I remember a time I ordered a chicken dish and it was dryer than the Sahara desert – how they chef could’ve got... I am a regular at The Mermaid and have experienced only excellent quality fish and chips and pleasant efficient service even at the most busy times. The fish and chips are so fresh that often they sizzle when vinegar is added.

We went to the mermaid for tea it was disgusting uncooked batter we asked for some scraps and am I glad we did at least we could strip the fish and eat it with scraps. We complained and the waitress apologised and offered us some more but to be honest this is the second time we have been unable to... More

i have on my many visits to the area, used the Mermaid many times, however never again, and what a shame. This establishment now charges extra for bread and butter, extra for tea. These products were always included,as they are at most fish and chip establishments. How they can charge 3 of us £6.00 for a pot of tea is beyond belief, and then... In a world of Michelin stars and smart reviews, it's good to get back to food that you love. Fish and chips cooked in beef dripping reminds me of my much loved and missed grandparents . The excitement of visiting them and the smell of fish and chips from West Yorkshire stirs this memory for me 30 years later. We... More
