Good traditional fish and chips but getting expensive

I like this good old fashioned fish and chip restaurant. Setting a little dated but always clean. Love to see loads of oldies in here too. Shows fish and chips are not all bad! Food always good. Crisp batter and dry. Always very hot. Not a plan of new pricing. B&b and tea used to be included. 25p... read more

Went in on a Sunday night for a takeaway and was disgusted by the attitude of one staff member. We were waiting for our order when one member of staff member pointed at us with some kind of skewer and said to her colleague 'I don't know what THEY'RE waiting for' in such a rude manner. This particular member of... More

Went here with my daughter and Grandparents for a sit down fish and chip meal to pass some time before I attended an appointment. We don't usually sit down and eat so was a treat for us and it is more expensive than takeaway. Ordered for the senior menu, kids menu and normal menu. Waited quite a while for our... More

I have been here many times getting fish and chips and it is the best ive had. I have never been in the restaurant itself so I cannot comment on that because I have always ordered it at the counter to takeaway. I have always used the Mermaid as I have no reason to go else where.

Not impressed. Fishcakes had no taste and the cod and chips were luke warm and very greasy. .......on a positive the pot of tea was nice. I won't be back.

Like other reviewers, been here many times and never disappointed ! Fish and chips are always hot, tasty and perfectly cooked ! Batter crispy and not too thick. Had the seniors meal and was quite sufficient. Ideal place if you just want the traditional "fish and chip supper" (or lunch)

Consistency! I have been going to the Mermaid since I can remember, ie when it was the Fastnet. It has always produced great takeaway fish and chips. Staff could be more friendly and less forgetful, I once got home to find my meal missing and I'd paid for it. I don't really go to the restaurant side often as I... More

We visited the mermaid today after almost 20 years since I last visited. I have so many child hood fond memories there which I was hoping to share with my children but it was such a let down. To start with the place looks a little run down needed fresh paint and new carpets. The staff looked so miserable like... More
