Good traditional fish and chips but getting expensive

I like this good old fashioned fish and chip restaurant. Setting a little dated but always clean. Love to see loads of oldies in here too. Shows fish and chips are not all bad! Food always good. Crisp batter and dry. Always very hot. Not a plan of new pricing. B&b and tea used to be included. 25p... read more

Like other reviewers, been here many times and never disappointed ! Fish and chips are always hot, tasty and perfectly cooked ! Batter crispy and not too thick. Had the seniors meal and was quite sufficient. Ideal place if you just want the traditional "fish and chip supper" (or lunch)

Consistency! I have been going to the Mermaid since I can remember, ie when it was the Fastnet. It has always produced great takeaway fish and chips. Staff could be more friendly and less forgetful, I once got home to find my meal missing and I'd paid for it. I don't really go to the restaurant side often as I... More

We visited the mermaid today after almost 20 years since I last visited. I have so many child hood fond memories there which I was hoping to share with my children but it was such a let down. To start with the place looks a little run down needed fresh paint and new carpets. The staff looked so miserable like... More

Been to mermaid quite a few times excellent fish and chips, service quite good could do with a smile from some of the staff. the only bug bare is you now have to pay extra for tea bread and butter, where as before it was included in your meal, the only good deal is for the pensioners where they can... My husband and I went last Friday night as we were visiting Morley and our usual spot for tea was closed for refurbishment. We were greeted and seated promptly and our order for standard haddock and chips; mushy peas, bread and tea for two taken. We didn't have to wait long (certainly not as long as other couples who came... More

visited on Friday night for the first time. I hoped to have fish pie but because the chef was absent we had fish and chips which were very nice and the fish was a good size. The service was very good and the waitress was pleasant. Unfortunately we ordered extra's without checking the prices, We were a bit shocked to... More
