Joined a 40th birthday party and enjoyed the food, venue and atmosphere immensely. The staff were superb, unobtrusive, accommodating and appropriately attentive - if I owned a business I would take a leaf out of the people who recruit here. From the cute little vintage van serving unique wood fired pizza to the restaurant with an outstanding menu to the... More

My second visit here, I do not remember much of last one other than meal was very good -it was Xmas. Visited again on a quiet Thursday lunchtime, place only a quarter full, it was a lovely day, but the garden at the front is small. We sat at the front with an open window a good compromise on a... Met up with some friends for supper, food looked terrific, nice Serrano ham basking on the side, but my meal was slightly disappointing and I thought rather expensive. But will try again. This place has many excellent reviews, perhaps I was just having a bad day, but our bill came to over £200 for six. Nice ambience, staff pretty good,... More

The Richmond Arms just gets better and better. Had dinner there last night with my wife and had a really excellent meal. Having water on the table and bread brought as soon as you are seated immediately makes a good impression. Interesting and intriguing menu makes choosing quite difficult as there are also more starters/bar snacks on a blackboard. I... More

There are many pubs in and around the South Downs that trade on views, past experiences of the chef, hymns were written there or have gained some spurious award from a magazine! In my experience they either do not try very hard with their food or charge you an excessive amount or both! At last after trying to eat at... More

Birthday visit on a Thursday evening. The place was alive with chatter and the amazing aroma of Serrano ham! Cannot fault anything about the three course meal, the service or the price. Superb

On a very busy night, because of local horse racing, they accommodated our request to increase our table numbers from 5 to 7 at short notice. Service was exemplary and very well measured. A starter of local asparagus was nicely presented and well dressed but a bit light on asparagus. A soft shell crab starter was described as brilliant! A... More

Our first time visit to this, what turned out to be, a very excellent pub and restaurant in West Ashling. Four of us for lunch on a lovely sunny day, friendly staff, an excellent menu, great wines and a nice couple of pints of beer. We couldn't fault it. The only very minor point, is the restricted parking that can... More

Don't actually think my title sums up what a treasure this place is. The hustle and bustle of a proper decent pub and absolutely delicious food await you if you have the foresight to book a table. Attentive staff man a thoughtfully stocked bar and seem to have an excellent working knowledge of all aspects of the pub. The menu... More
