Although we are the lucky few who own 2nd homes on Hawai'i's Kohala Coast, at the Mauna Kea Hotel, an equally great hotel is 5 miles south. And, the Bay Terrace for brunch outshines any other hotel on the coast. Move over 4 Seasons, move over Kukio. Move over Mauna Kea, the Mauna Lani Terrace brunch, outdoors, in the most... More

The Canoe House offers a tasting menu and it is well worth every cent you pay for it. The chef finds out what types of foods you don't like or are allergic to and then creates a five course menu based up that information and what is locally available. the result was spectacular. I ate foods that I would never... More

The quality of the meals and the ambiance are excellent. I've dined here at least four or five times in the past and was not disappointed. Expensive but worth it.

When it comes to an ocean front dining experience on the Big Island, few capture the ambiance of the CanoeHouse. It is quite picturesque how the palm trees line the shores. Came here after a round of golf for a drinks and a few pupus. The drinks here were the best I had on the entire trip, mixed to perfection... More

This is probably the nicest setting for an evening meal that you can imagine. The patio is lovely with torches and a serene islander crooning to you with his guitar while the sun sets behind waves crashing to the beach a couple yards away. You could tell they were going for a Hawaiian Asian fusion vibe and it all sounded... More

CanoeHouse has a beautiful location on the beach a Mauna Lani Resort. Go early and watch the sunset. Both the food and service are good, but not great. It is a very pleasant and romantic place to eat dinner but there is very little to excite a foodie.

We were way more impressed with the food and atmosphere at Ulu, which is essentially the same concept - outdoor fancy restaurant at a nice hotel with the spotlighted ocean in front of you while you dine. The service was good but the food was only so-so for the price. We didn't bother having dessert, being unimpressed by the entrees... More

Don't waste a penny on the meal. From the croutons in the ceasar salad STALE, to the microwaved finger potatoes... Nothing was worth the drive or the calories eating out EXCEPT walking along the beach and seeing those gigantic turtles sleeping against the ocean sand and black and white rocks! You can see those kiddos without eating at the Canoe... More

It's a nice menu and a beautiful setting but the food was only so-so. They do have a handful of tables you can reserve on the sand which would be a spectacular place to eat dinner. But otherwise, I wouldn't come back here again.

You know how you eat at some restaurants and have trouble recalling the taste of the food? This was one of those places for me. It is certainly a memorable setting, with a beautiful view of the beach and the setting sun. I just was a bit underwhelmed with the food and the service. It is in no way the... More
