We made reservation with the restaurant based on the good feedback on tripadvisor. The ambience was good but the taste and freshness need to be improved. We have several meals in yogyakarta. This is rather disappointing compare to others.

We ate at this "restaurant" two nights in a row, the first night we enjoyed the "rijsttsfel" several dishes which together ad up to a (large) meal. The second night we took a cooking class, where Phillip explained all the ingredients and the different methods of cooking, although he said to have kept it simple, we ended up with another... More

It was indeed a surprise when i found out from tripadvisor that the number one restaurant to visit in Jogja was a home eating place instead of a real restaurant, thus it became one of the must-eat place on my list and it did not let me down at all. There were three of us and we enjoyed the food,... More

We were in Jogja for 4 days and 3 nights on the Easter weekend. Having done some homework before we departs on where to dine. We found The Sawah rated as Top 1 and we have decided to pay a visit to this restaurant on one of the day after a day trip to Borobudur. As suggested we have to... More

Being so far away from the centre, how The Sawah rose to no.1 in Tripadvisor is a bit of a mystery to us and we spent some part of the dinner speculating about how we could perhaps try to open a restaurant at home (and we mean literally in our house) and reach no. 1 with the help of friends,... Travel lovers, if you don't go to La Sawah to experience dining in the home of Phillip and Wim, then you haven't really experienced the best of Jogja. My husband, his work colleague, and I dined at La Sawah in March 2014 based solely on the recommendations of Trip Advisor. I understood based on the reviews that we were in... More

Put TheSawah in your itinerary when visiting Jogja. Located in the outskirt of Jogja, it serves the most authentic Indonesian food I’ve ever tried in a place feels like home. Nothing is pretentious and being rushed here. When you’re here, the whole place is yours: you can even peek into their kitchen and the owner will be very please to... More

The surrounding is tranquil and the house possess strong personality which reflects the owner's passion. The food was yummy and the service was warm and personal. At the end of the meal, the owner brought us around the house, now, that is personal service all right. Highly recommended and given a chance, I will bring my family and friends here.

It is really one of its kind dining experience, the food we ordered was authentic & delicious Indonesian cuisine, will prefer the food to be more spicy but understand that it needs to cater to other guest preference. Wim is a great host and show us around his beautiful home. overall a great experience!

We have been in Yogyakarta for a while now, and we have become quite familiar with the Indonesian cuisine and "hotspots" in Yogyakarta when it comes to food. Nevertheless, Wim, Philip and their family who run the place (in a very welcoming way, by the way) have managed to impress us significantly. Do not consider this place an ordinary restaurant,...
