Real Spanish food off the main street

El Salsete is the restaurant to go for if you are looking for authentic Spanish food of high quality. The restaurant is situated a 5 minutes taxi drive from the Playa Ingles hotel area in an alley at the San Fernando area. I would not be able to find the restaurant myself. We ate in some really good restaurants during our stay in Gran Canaria and this might well rate as our number 1! Away from the tourist traps in a residential area, El Salsete was a real treat. The restaurant is fairly basic but spacious, the menu is varied, the service was good and friendly and the food was just excellent!... More

definitely worth the (sorta hard work to find) but a taxi and google maps should sort you out. worth going off the beaten track. we found this through trip advisor and was so glad we went. the food was phenomenal and the hosts lovely. its definitely a local place but we couldn't have been happier with the food and wine!

We decided to try a more local meal, and we're recommend El salsete by the hotel staff. Upon arrival there is a feeling that you have escaped the hordes of tourists. The staff were all very friendly and we were given a chance to try the local wine - it wasn't to our taste but was very nice to be... More

Very friendly staff, but the tuna was grossly over cooked, grey and sad, and the meat was raw and could not even be cut with the steak knife. The liver was chewy, but the pimientos were nice. Good wine.

We were told this was a place frequented by locals so thought it would be worth a try and we were not disappointed. The grilled rabbit had to be tasted to be believed. It was so good we went back to try other menu items. Very popular so do book a table, particularly for evenings. Service was friendly and efficient,... More

Went after being recommended by the Lonely Planet book about the Canary Islands. Nice atmosphere, service-minded staff, good food. The only thing we didn't like was the fact that they charged us for an aperitif they offered without us asking at the start of the meal. A bad practice, if they want more money, they can turn up the prices... More

We were told by a Canarian that the food here tasted like something out of his grandmother's kitchen - and judging from the beautiful fish meals we had his grandmother really knew how to cook! Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious! The restaurant is considered to be in the 'local area' rather than the touristy beach spot, and that actually... More
