This place was recommended in Lonely Planet but in fact there was nothing very special about it. The tapas were average at best, ending with a very chewy piece of meat and some uninspiring chips. A bar/restaurant that is dedicated to bullfighting. Strange place for a vegetarian to find themselves in! Nevertheless, the newspaper clippings that cover many decades and adorn the walls are interesting, though I can't say that I enjoyed the stuffed bulls heads very much. Outside there is a large terrace/restaurant. Inside it is a small warren of little seating areas. Didn't... More

Awful steak - inedible. Fawning waiter who became a nuisance. Dirty toilets. The outside terrace looked inviting but go elsewhere.

We enjoyed our lunch here. It was good value, with a reasonably priced menu del dia and good sized portions. The staff were busy, but we were served in a reasonable time. For starters we had a lentil dish and a dish of white beans, both very traditional Spanish dishes and ones we've tried before. Both were very tasty, especially... More

Restaurant clean and lovely atmosphere. It was very quiet and could talk easily with the family The starters were average, las croquetas were ok although I would not repeat them again I order carrillada which came cold but very good amount of retinto with chips and good salad The fish was a good portion but they put too much paprika... Delicious food - typically Spanish - with posters of bull fights decorating the walls. Attentive service and reasonable prices.

The location of this restaurant in a main thoroughfare on the way to the Roman Museum is great. The bullfighters posters, bull heads, etc. were interesting but the overall seedy atmosphere of the rooms is not appealing to enjoy the food. The cod carpaccio was good but the accompanying spicy/garlicky shrimp overwhelmed the subtlety of the fish. We were the... More

My husband and I held very fond memories of this restaurant from a visit 6 years ago, so upon our return to Mérida we bypassed every other nice looking restaurant and steered back to Casa Benito. What a disappointment! The salad with partidge that we order for a shared starter was served with very little partidge - and what was... More

Our tour guide recommended this restaurant so we tried it. Had a delicious lunch but very slow service on the terrace. Tables were slow to be cleaned and lots of people smoking. Inside the restaurant was interesting with bull fighting memorabilia. We were told to try ham and were not disappointed.
