I've been visiting on and off for about 35yrs, very regularly in the noughties, it was always good but hadn't been for a couple of years now. We decoded to revisit on the spur of the moment and had a meal from the evening menu in the bar. Its been redecorated since our last trip and looks brighter and more... More

The menu here is not your usual pub restaurant fayre. We had an early Saturday evening booking (selected starters only £1) and the place was heaving by the time we left. All portions generous and very good. We had to share dessert - well, we couldn't not try Eton mess sandwich. This is a regular place for the friends I... More

As the title says, I have never had a bad meal here. During different days of the week there are various themes. We went on mothers day to celebrate my sons birthday and for them to treat their mother, my wife, and it was a set menu of 3 courses for £22. I had the parsnip soup to start which... More

I've been visiting this pub for 35 years and have always found it a fabulous place both for food and ale. On our most recent visit the food was as good as ever, well worth a 5 rating, and the beer selection has got even better with the addition of Purity Ales. On this one occasion however the service was... More

Myself and my partner (used to) regularly visit The Gate. Unfortunately the last two visits have been very poor which has marred a place that I had previously looked forward to visiting. Very lacklustre table service, including warm (not hot) food served (sent back once on one occasion and twice on another occasion) A course that was "forgotten" for over... More

Went here with a couple of friends. It's a bit of a drive for us but that won't stop me going again. The food was fantastic with a distinctly American style (more than just burgers and fries). The place was very busy so I suggest you'll probably need to book to get in

I have now been twice for the two themed nights: Monday - Mexican Tuesday - American Monday night was my first visit and was not quite prepared for how good the food was. After being to a nearby Chiquito I was apprehensive at best. The pulled pork soft tacos were incredible and the Mexican platter was just as good. In... More

We had a table booked for a family reunion for 7p.m. on Saturday 29th Feb 2105 for 9 people. Our party arrived at 6.50p.m. and were told that the table was not ready - we were told that we were seated in the Bar area. The restaurant was packed and there was literally nowhere to sit or stand without being... More

I ate here a few weeks with my husband and another couple. I have not eaten here for over a year and thought the refurbishment was really well done. In the restaurant we ate at a booth, the seating was really comfortable. The menu has changed too, the favourite Mexican food has been retained but lots of new dishes add.... More
