Really poor service!

We had a table booked for a family reunion for 7p.m. on Saturday 29th Feb 2105 for 9 people. Our party arrived at 6.50p.m. and were told that the table was not ready - we were told that we were seated in the Bar area. The restaurant was packed and there was literally nowhere to sit or stand without... read more

I ate here a few weeks with my husband and another couple. I have not eaten here for over a year and thought the refurbishment was really well done. In the restaurant we ate at a booth, the seating was really comfortable. The menu has changed too, the favourite Mexican food has been retained but lots of new dishes add.... More

My husband and myself visited her a few weekend ago. The pub is in a lovely little village and looks lovely from the outside. We booked a table for 6.30 to make the most the £1 starters that they do. We both had pate and was probably one of the best pates we have had. It came with a lovely... More

At lunchtime, I prefer the atmosphere of pubs to that of restaurants but, in the evenings restaurants are the order of the day - the Gate has a separate dining-room and offers both. The staff are clearly carefully chosen and are always friendly and welcoming despite the fact that they are frequently rushed off their feet (it is wise to... More

Just visited The Gate and had the vegetarian chilli with chips at £11.00. Probably the worst meal I have had in many years, oven chips with soya or possibly soya mince and loads of red chillis. Hardly any kidney beans and so hot I could not taste anything else, which is probably a good thing. Anyway, decided to leave it... More

We've been eating at this pub for over 20 years and the food has been good. On Friday night I had a terrible rump steak, gristle and sinew made it difficult to cut and chew. Half the chewed steak was left on the plate and our waitress relayed to the manager that I didn't think I should pay for it.... More

Quite local to us not the cheapest but fair prices the food is stunning. All the steaks are done to perfection and the Mexican food they do is superb. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service, food and atmosphere. They get it RIGHT! A really varied menu to suite all tastes. The service is the best I've experienced lately. No more to be said, go and try it !
