This was a birthday treat for Yvonne and it lived up to expectations. Food was superb, tradotional Noreegian, the wine list overwhelming. Waiters did a great job, attentive but nicely understated. Restaurant was full of large Norwegian groups and it is clearly somewhere those in the know go to treat themselves. Memorable night!!

I was recommended a visit to Hallingstuene by a friend on Facebook whilst travelling to Geilo. I respect this guy’s opinion when it comes to food but reading the reviews I was worried that it wouldn’t be good value. Whilst expensive by most peoples standards (mine included) the quality of food cannot be knocked at all. Traditional Norwegian cuisine and... More

The food is really great with Norwegian traditional dishes, gourmet style. Prices are steep. A family dinner will cost you.

Hallingstuene is a restaurant with a sort of cosy, old Norwegian style. The food was good, but lacked that little extra that could make the experience all the more special. We had checked out the menu on the restaurant's website in advance, and some in our party was disappointed when it turned out that this was the wrong meny, and... More

We enjoyed this first meal in a gourmet restaurant in Norway. The starters and the mains were excellent: fresh ingredients, good cooking (fish, game and lamb) and nice taste. The desserts were Ok but ordinary: ice cream and sorbets with fresh fruit. The young waiter wore a "in training" badge and did a correct job. But at this (price) level... More

We were looking for having dinner outside of our hotel and in trip advisor we found this restaurant. We did not expect to find such a lovely restaurant after reading the few comments. The interior is traditional norwegian and just warm and causy. Nice decor, perfect ambiente. Service was friendly and the food delicious. This is defenitly worth a try... More

I had a wonderful trout meal for quite a while ago. As I was passing Geilo with two American members of the family, I just had to invite them to dinner at one of Norway's best restaurants. They were a little worried about whether they would like the food; the menu was limited and dishes unfamiliar. Also, the food would... More

It was a excellent experience! "Old norwegian style" restaurant with varied meny. We were four and everyone got delicious meal. I ordered fish-soup, trout and pavlova dessert. Excellent food and great service. We enjoy our evening.

We were visiting Gelio on a family skiing holiday and having been thrifty for the preceding few days we thought we would splash out on the last night and try and find a decent meal that wasn't pasta or pizza. Also my wife had earned a decent bottle of wine after making sandwiches all week! Whilst I would normally turn... More

Everything is very finely prepared but not outrageously exquisite and the prices are quite good for food of this caliber in Norway. They have an impressive wine list which is quite daunting in size but if you have the funds for it, there are some really good ones. For a starter we had the Norwegian tapas plate with 4 different...
