What a find! Amazing meat on the carvery...

Booked a table for 14, and they catered for us very well. Minimal waiting etc. starter of home made blue cheese was good, if a little light on the cheese. But home made crisps were an absolute winner! We all got very excited when bowls of them were brought out! The carvery meat was very good, the... read more

Very busy this evening. Bar staff very good. Had eaten here yesterday and decided to eat again tonight however food was bland. We are staying at a nearby campsite. The bar staff had to ask if the chef could do cheese on chips? When they came the cheese had melted and solidified. Ambience good.

A very popular pub probably due to the campsite further up the road. Dog friendly, average looking pub menu, priced well.

What a shame we left it so late! pub is closed on Monday and Tuesday so we didn't really have much choice but it was well worth the visit. VEGANs catered for! Yes...two of my tribe could actually eat in a pub and enjoy the visit. We were made very welcome and served with delicious food and most importantly great... More

Stopped here for a bite to eat with our 2 young children. The land lord and land lady were really welcoming and came across with colouring books and crayons. Food was really tasty and the boys were really happy to have a chip butty! The landlord and landlady were really friendly and chatty which made for a very pleasant atmosphere.... More

Ate here with siblings on a weekend away. Called in first and the menu looked tempting, but to be honest it didn't quite live up to expectations. Soup a little flavourless etc. OK, perfectly edible, but none of us thought it very memorable. If you're going to big up the chef on the menu then diners will tend to expect... More

Came with a large group of 26 for Sunday lunch. The staff were very accommodating - they let us all pay separately, didn't mind that some of our party were late and let us stay for a few hours despite most of us only having one course. The carvery was good and there were two veggie options. Thanks very much.

We had pre-booked Sunday lunch for a large group of us. This was easy to do over the phone and they were very accommodating e.g. let us order and pay individually, we didn't have to pre-order or pay a deposit, a highchair and plastic cutlery was provided for my baby and gluten-free gravy was made specially for me. The waitress... More

We visited 'The Red Lion' on two occasions over the weekend. Good old fashioned pub on the main street of Birchover Village. Plenty of local beers and cider available, although not much in the choice of lagers. Menu is a little limited however we just shared an antipasti starter which was fantastic. Several benches outside to the front of the... More

The chef is much travelled and easily bored so is constantly creating new menus. He makes his own cheese whenever he has the time and it is one of the best rated prize winning cheeses in the uk. Lovely old building in a beautiful village. The menu is small but changes regularly which I find an encouragement to try new... More
