You only have to read the arguments (excuses) of the owner to realise this place is very very poor! I would never return.

Cannot fault the quality and taste of the food, along with a friendly welcome! Antipasto was delicious, and the all mains were delicious - just beware of the sea bass and spaghetti dish, fish was perfect but combination a little dry

Good service and very popular - obvious why. the food was good, good portions and well presented. Friendly staff and good beer - 9 ladies brewed for the Red Lion, well worth making your acquaintance with, even when with the wife!

Looked forward to nice food having visited several times before . However my main course of belly pork with roasted new potatoes and salad at £9.50 was unbelievable . A minute piece of pork which was so hard and dry I couldn't cut it and a " salad " which was a couple of sliced up lettuce leaves and half... More

We checked out both restaurants in Birchover for my birthday meal and this had the best menu so we booked at lunchtime for that evening. A good job we did as many folk turned up without reservations. The bar staff were very friendly and the food lovely. My starter of zucchini with flowers was so unusual and very tasty! Hubby... More

Stayed in Birchover for a week and ate at the Red Lion 3 times and all very nice, especially the Lamb rump and the burger which has 2 burgers which I didn't think I could manage so they kindly replaced one with pulled pork with excellent results! Found the staff to be friendly and helpfull, I can only think that... More

The food was adequate although plentiful. the staff were friendly. What really made this pub was the beer Nine Ladies brewed for them. Nice drink and one that you could also buy to take home.

My friends and I have been visiting this village for over 20 years now and to be honest absolutely love the area and the stunning walks along the Moore. We have stayed many times up at Barn Farm the local camp site where we are always welcomed with friendly helpful staff. UNLIKE THE BARSTAFF at the red lion! We have... More

I can really recomend the partridge or the Sunday carvery, which is great value. Everybody made us really welcome and after informing that l needed a gluten free meal in advance l was given the best gluten free bread l have ever had. Will visit very soon and have some more of the beautiful Birchover blue cheese.
