Went here with a group. We thought bit expensive but very nice. Be prepared for a long wait as food is cooked to order. Overall ok but there are other places nicer.
A great 'gastro-pub' (so called, I assume, because the actual bar is very short and so the bar room doesn't feel very pubby (if you want an old fashioned pubby pub go to the Plough in Little London)). The gastro bit, however, is excellent. Try the scotch eggs which, even when cut in half, still have runny yolks - how... More
A great choice to take a selection of international managers - to an old fashioned pub, serving very good food, in the attractive and be-thatched Old Basing. Very well received, from the nibbles (pork-crackling style pork scratchings) to the main courses, service and food both highly recommended.
Very good food & service at the Crown in Basing, north Hampshire. We were a group of eleven people. We were particularly impressed with the local foods on the menu including Hampshire Tunworth cheese & Sparkling Wine from Jenkyn Place Vineyard in Hampshire. It was a rainy November day so don't know if there was outdoor seating--didn't look.
The Crown is a lovely pub next to the ruins of Basing House. Food is locally sourced and good quality but has become more like a Gastro Pub than a local village pub! Gone are the staple classics for lunchtime menu to be replaced by the likes of pork cheek ravioli. Don't like the fact lots of food is served... More
Went for a business lunch and as usual the food and service was great. I have been on several occasions before including once on Christmas Day two years ago which was fantastic. The food is always very fresh and tastes great with locally sourced ingredients. Going again next week for my birthday dinner and barring any disasters in the future,... More
Visited The Crown with parents inlaw and all thoroughly enjoyed it. The meat was extremely tender and my toddler loved it so much that I gave her mine. I ordered the roast but as a vegetarian got the meat on a separate plate for others to enjoy and luckily I did. The Yorkshire pudding was fabulous, the best I've had... More
Went for Sunday lunch. Marvellous! Great menu, excellent food. Well above average pub food. Lovely, warm, welcoming interior and spotless. Highly recommend it. Need to go back for dinner soon.
Had an evening with friends. Service was excellent, food was both interesting and delicious. The scotch egg was very nice as was the Venison Pie. Would eat there again and certainly recommend it, we had a great time.
I really enjoyed my lunch here the other day with friends. We arrived with no booking but were welcomed and sat down without fuss. I notice the comments of Martin G and would agree, it was the 2 "locals" who made us fell unwanted. Turn left as you go into the pub and head straight for the dinning room to... More
