A reliable and friendly local pit stop

The Red Lion at Handcross shows how much standards can vary within a single organisation. Like menu establishments, the Red Lion goes up and down. At the moment it is in the up phase. Dropped in mid walk on Friday and had a tasty belly or pork while my wife had the "spicy chicken". My only quibble... read more

A Traditional, oak beamed building with real atmosphere. We were welcomed and shown to our table. The order was taken and our drinks came quickly. Although there was a slight delay in our order arriving the staff were friendly and working hard. ( the restaurant is large and it was pretty packed) the menu was more than just normal pub... More

4 of us arrived pre-booked for a 7.30pm reservation. Ordered our food, one hour & half later........we got it! Manager was not good at managing this situation. He kept telling us that the food was on the way.......which is wasn't! The food was very good when it arrived. It was only when we were leaving that this manager told us... More

Food was good, well cooked and presented. Service was dreadful, ordered a drink before we ordered and waited over 20 minutes for it to be delivered. Then waited ages for our food - nearly 3 hours for a main and pudding!

The ambience of this pub was very comfortable, shabby chic, but the food was superb, although not cheap. Food was really tasty and beautifully presented.

when we arrived restaurant was empty, yet they said they were fully booked- got seated next to serving counter. Food was so salty I couldn't enjoy my meal. Waitress unfriendly and no atmosphere in restaurant. Will not be returning anytime soon- big disappointment!

I hadn't been here before, and went for a meal with a friend on a Friday night. First off, one of us was given the wrong menu - not a great start! The actual building is very nice - spacious and airy - and the atmosphere seemed good. The food was good, though I feel slightly on the expensive side.... More

Booked a table, arrived, waited ages for drink for only some to arrive. Served starter, main arrived as last spoonful of starter went it.. This all happened within 55 mins... Bloke behind the bar was sooo rude, but that's ok.. He's leaving (apparently) SORT IT OUT.. Will not be returning anytime soon!!

A group of us went to the Red Lion for dinner this week, and what a disappointment it was! I haven't been here for about a year, when a different group would meet up at lunchtime - not too crowded, a good menu which gave a choice of light bites or a full meal, together with a specials board. Not... More

Four of us ate here and had a very good meal. The food was excellent, very well cooked, although the portions were slightly on the small side. The service was very good with the waiting staff being sufficiently attentive without being overbearing. The prices, considering the affluent area in which the restaurant is situated, were very reasonable.
