The Red Lion has changed since I saw it last!

The Red Lion was a part of (I believe) Chef & Brewer the last time I ate there; it was dark, dank and characterless, unlike other C&B pubs I do like to go to. Zero atmosphere. But now!!! What a makeover, it's light, airy, great ambiance, the food was magnificent- I had venison, and it was... read more

On arrival the welcome was friendly enough however the food arrived in front of us with problems. The most obvious thing was the roast potatoes having no crisp to them. They looked almost boiled. The veg was too soft and over sweetened especially the carrots and parsnips. I had the pan fried gnocchi and found it very average. It was... More

Visited this evening for the Sunday roast. From arrival the staff are friendly and keen to please. No long delays in waiting for the food which was presented well, good sized portions, hot and delicious, probably one of the best roasts I've had in a resturant. Not cheap but worth every penny. Thank you

We popped in here on the way to visit Nymans NT house. Ample parking. We were to late to eat in the restaurant . So enjoyed lunch in the bar area. We could not fault the food which was excellent we went for the 2 course lunch for £12.00 each- brilliant . Staff friendly and happy to explain the menu.... More

Since moving to Handcross we have eaten here a number of times and the food is excellent. The place is very welcoming at the bar and at the table. Menu is excellent and well priced.

We visit Nymans in Handcross often and the Red Lion pub/restaurant is conveniently over the road in the village. Went for a light lunch and dessert on the fixed price menu - excellent value and good food. They do a great expresso coffee too - had to mention as it seems to be a failing in a lot of places... We were very excited, thought we had stumbled on a little gem. Service slow, drinks arrived after starter but food was very good. It all went wrong at the end, ordered a mini pudding and tea. Happily drank a cup of tea and went to poor another when noticed something floating in the milk. A dead spider. When we spoke... More

We went for Sunday Lunch as a party of 8. The service was very good and unhurried despite the restaurant being full. The menu is extensive even on a Sunday where there is the addition of the traditional roasts. We all agreed that the food was fantastic and all gave a minimum of 9 out of 10. Highly recommended .... My friend had recommended the Red Lion, it has been renovated and we had not been there for a long time. The decor was fantastic more gastro pub than pub. We had some friends coming down and decided to take them there. I was so glad we booked as it was very busy even on a Wednesday night, which was... More
