Very discouraged to find that the pub has entered one of its periodic 'bad phases'. The once beautiful terrace is now deserted and overgrown; service, food and drink are barely adequate.

I have been going to the Abingdon Arms on and off since the 1960s. Until now I have always been very happy with it. My wife and I went there for lunch on a Thursday. The pub was nearly empty. My wife wanted a tomato juice, they had none. She then asked for Ginger Beer and was served Ginger Ale.... More

This pub used to be good, but is no longer. Poor service, bread rolls from Tescos?, tartar sauce out of a jar, a waiter who was new (which is OK), but served across people (which is not OK), indifferent pate which lacked flavour. We had hoped for a special meal, but we didn't get it.

Very disappointed. Food just ordinary but well priced with no imagination. This place has gone downhill.

This review is only really relevant to those looking to book this pub as a venue for an event. In my case it was for my late dad's funeral wake as it is located conveniently close to the Oxford Crematorium. We also visited prior to the event to have a look and drink. The place had a nice feel so... More

Visited Friday 14 March, lunchtime. Only about 2 other tables full, so pretty empty. Lady behind bar was pleasant and I ordered a Sandwich. At £7 I had stupidly thought they would be something special. It arrived. Huge slabs of cheap brown bread that crumbled badly, grated mild cheddar and 1 bit of lettuce with pickle. No salad, no chips,... More

We booked Sunday lunch with a couple of friends. The Restaurant was about 3/4 full when we arrived. The staff were friendly enough and it was nice and warm. They took our order promptly, and then it all went downhill. We waited half an hour for our starter. My samosas were very overcooked and my friends whitebait was burnt to... More

After taking a drive, we stumbled upon this lovely looking country pub,we went in and it looked very busy. A good sign usually! After waiting 15 minutes to order which we had been told would be the case, we then waited over an hour for our Sunday lunch to come out. Frankly it was inedible, cold across every component, seemingly... More

We have been to the Abingdon Arms a number of times because we know the food will always be good. Thus we went for Sunday lunch which was sizable and tasty. We have always had excellent service there! The building itself has a wonderful garden at the back where it is very good to sit if the weather is good. The... More

The reason for our visit to the Abingdon Arms was a sad one - my Aunt's cremation service was being held at the Oxford Garden of Remembrance about 2 miles away. The family needed a place to gather for tea/coffee and consolation beforehand and the staff at the pub were were kind enough to open up an hour early for... More
