Pricey but great service

Went as a family. My daughter is coeliac and the restaurant was very helpful with a separate menu. Starters were ok; the trio of salmon being the best. Mains again ok; I enjoyed my beef medallions. I thought the puddings were average. Overall the food was fine, but not exceptional considering the... read more

I've visited the cowshed aka the thatch aka the wheatsheaf many times to eat. The food is always excellent, especially the steaks. It boasts an extensive wine seller. The Wirral is noticeably devoid of quality places to eat so this place really stands out...ironic considering its relatively hidden location. What's also really nice to go to the thatch in summer... Found at random from a blind search on Google, what a wonderful meal in a relaxing atmosphere, being looked after attentive efficient staff. Would recommend it to anyone, looks after hungry protesters and vegetarians with a good choice of well cooked and beautifully presented food

I've eaten here many times over the years. Today we had bar snacks for my Dads birthday. It's a lovely pub one of the oldest buildings on the Wirral dating back to 1611. We just had a snacks but you can have a full meal and in the evenings I think that's what most have. The food is always good... More

Menu is not large but is varied. Food tasty, staff friendly and efficient. Would recommend the cambridge cream dessert.Area lovely too for a short pre or post lunch walk.

Had eaten at the Cowshed a few time before and had always had a decent meal. Think this time I was just unlucky. Went as a group of 10. Started off well, drink were served quick but then starters to a bit of an age to arrive. No probs as good chat was being had anyway and starters were good.... More

Visited for a drink only a few weeks ago but I will return. The ale was good and the food looked good, the best thing was there was NO MUSIC in the bar area and it was FULL of people eating lunch unlike the restaurant which was empty. When will owners ever understand that people like to speak to each... More

Despite someone filling the place with smoke this was one of the best meals and great nights we've had in ages. Fabulous staff, excellent food - imagnative menu, even catered for our vegetarian friend with ease. We will be going back again soon.
