No Spotted Dick

Have lunched here twice recently, once as a couple and once as a family. The food was very good, we all had different starters and main courses which we all enjoyed very much. The service was quite slow although the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Super location and atmosphere. I... read more

It starts badly with wandering around trying to find the restaurant inside the building then trying to find staff to show you to your booked table - there needs to be a greeter. I'm going to list the problems: three members of staff between them forgot 4 things. The lighting is too bright. One of the waitresses appeared to be... More

Visited last Sunday to celebrate a family birthday. Lovely atmospheric place, great food & nice friendly staff. My only gripe would be the slow service - wouldn't normally be an issue but we had an 18 month old to keep amused. However she was quite happy trotting up & down the ramp in the restaurant between courses, & talking to... More

Enjoyed a lovely bank holiday birthday meal. Booked in advance to avoid disappointment. Lovely atmosphere in quiet country pub. All party enjoyed their meals. Excellent beer and wine. Fast becoming our favourite.

We went here for a family birthday meal. Don't be confused that its called 3 names - The Cowshed or The Wheatsheaf or 'The Thatch'! The pub has a great atmosphere and appeared well used by people living locally. Good range of beers & wines. After a pre-dinner drink we were shown through to the Cowshed dining room. Beautiful exposed... More

I've visited the cowshed aka the thatch aka the wheatsheaf many times to eat. The food is always excellent, especially the steaks. It boasts an extensive wine seller. The Wirral is noticeably devoid of quality places to eat so this place really stands out...ironic considering its relatively hidden location. What's also really nice to go to the thatch in summer... Went as a family. My daughter is coeliac and the restaurant was very helpful with a separate menu. Starters were ok; the trio of salmon being the best. Mains again ok; I enjoyed my beef medallions. I thought the puddings were average. Overall the food was fine, but not exceptional considering the price. However the staff were very friendly and... More

Found at random from a blind search on Google, what a wonderful meal in a relaxing atmosphere, being looked after attentive efficient staff. Would recommend it to anyone, looks after hungry protesters and vegetarians with a good choice of well cooked and beautifully presented food

I've eaten here many times over the years. Today we had bar snacks for my Dads birthday. It's a lovely pub one of the oldest buildings on the Wirral dating back to 1611. We just had a snacks but you can have a full meal and in the evenings I think that's what most have. The food is always good... More

Menu is not large but is varied. Food tasty, staff friendly and efficient. Would recommend the cambridge cream dessert.Area lovely too for a short pre or post lunch walk.
